My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rocky Dash ACCT-A-161870 is a 2-year-old male who came in as an owner surrender on 4/27, after his owner passed away. His remaining family (wife and children) lacked the time to properly care for him. They expressed the hope that he'd find a family with "children and an open space when he can run and play, and for them to love him like we have.

Behavior notes --
Per volunteer on 5/2: Per Volunteer: Rocky Dash sat politely as I leashed him and walked nicely outside. He is trying to stay housetrained and went to the bathroom outside. Rocky Dash enjoyed running a bit then walked with me a mile. He enjoyed sniffing everything on our walk and did not mind other dogs or people at all.

His owners noted the following about Rocky Dash in their surrender notes:
Lived with adults and children
Usual behavior in the home: Jolly
Active, playful energy
Walks great on leash
Loves playing with balls
Reacts happily toward strangers, children, and other dogs

Shortly after the intake process on 4/27, staff noted the following: "Got called up to intake to help bring Rocky Dash back. When I got up there he was growling, hard barking, and half lunging at other people in the room. I approached him with my body sideways and let him sniff my leash. He put his own head through the loop and sniffed me, but his owner kept a tight leash and pulled him back. I told her that I could take the dog if she's ready, and she allowed Rocky to approach me and sniff me. He sniffed me with a mid level wagging tail and his body loosened up. The owner handed me the leash and when we walked away Rocky was a new dog. We went through intake and he needed minimal restraint. He wasn't super into any food we offered but he was wiggly and loose and did some play bows. He allowed all handling and leaned into pets. He was so good, but didn't like the shots and flinched, but that's all he did, nothing concerning. When we entered the kennels Rocky got stressed and tensed up, head whipping around on alert. He barked at some staff members who were several feet away. He did not pull towards them, just stared with a high tail and barked a couple times. Rocky seems to have some on leash reactivity when stressed. He hesitated going into kennel but I stepped in with him and used leash pressure and he hopped in.

During a behavioral assessment on 4/28, staff noted the following: "Rocky Dash was laying on his bed when I got to his kennel. He got right up when he saw me and came up to the door with soft eyes and low wags. I reached in with the leash and he sniffed it curiously. He dodged a bit when I tried to over the head leash him, so I leashed ears to snout and he came right out. Rocky Dash sniffed for a minute before coming up to me with fully body wiggles and soft eyes. He accepted some all over love and I removed his harness. He did a big shake off and did some zoomies afterwards. Rocky Dash gave some weird eye contact throughout our interactions, but he remained loose and wiggly throughout. He allowed all over handling with no issues.

Medical notes:
During an intake exam on 4/27, staff found Rocky Dash to be in good general health.
