My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

2 years, 24lbs, Beagle/Terrier Mix, Spayed

This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org.

Thier Foster Parent Says: It’s impossible not to fall in love with Bindi the moment you meet her. Since she's arrived she’s been a perfect angel. She loves to cuddle, give kisses and roll over for belly rubs. She also loves to wrestle and play tug of war with her foster brother. She takes a 30 minute walk in the morning around 9am, but likes to sleep in and is in no rush to go out in the morning. She takes a 1hr walk at 5pm and goes out for one last quick potty break between 8pm and 10pm. She fits right into her foster brother's routine and seems really adaptable and easy going.

Level of dog ownership experience needed:

INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.)

Energy level

MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)

Cuddle Level:

Bindi is a total cuddle bug. She likes to snuggle up in bed at night and on the couch for a movie night either with me or her foster brother. Her favorite thing to do is sleep on her back, which is extremely cute. She’s also a fan of sleeping in.

Potty Trained:
Bindi is fully potty trained- no accidents! She was a bit confused about going potty on the city streets at first. She still prefers to go on grass or dirt, but has gotten more comfortable already after just a few days.

Comfy with strangers?
Bindi is a social butterfly. She has a very cool approach to meeting new people, casually walking into the middle of a group of strangers in line or sitting in the park or outside a restaurant and just kind of politely asks to be pet and fussed over- no jumping or being pushy.

Social with other dogs?
Bindi seems to be good with other dogs of all shapes and sizes. She hit it off with her foster brother right away, and can get a little excited when seeing other dogs, especially on the street when she’s on leash.

Mouthy behavior:
She can get a little mouthy when playing with her foster brother and myself, but hasn’t chewed anything she’s not supposed to. She enjoys chewing on bones and shredding rope toys, but seems to understand what is allowed to be chewed on and what’s not.

Okay in the city?
Bindi stepped off the van like she’s been a city girl her whole life. She’s not afraid of the sights and sounds of the city and walks great on a leash. She can pull a bit, especially when she sees other dogs, but nothing that can’t be improved with some basic training. She loves riding in the car, and was a perfect passenger for her first Uber ride from Manhattan to Brooklyn.

Separation anxiety?
Lower - Bindi has a little bit of separation anxiety and cries for a bit when I leave the house, but settles after a few minutes and will nap the day away until I get home.

Crate trained?

As she doesn’t get into trouble when home alone, she hasn’t been crated.

Medical status
Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake

How this dog ended up with Social Tees:
Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!

This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
