My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, I'm Pepa, a 2-year-old, 77lb female Great Pyrenees/Golden Retriever mix. I am from the 2022 Encanto Litter, and my journey since being adopted nearly two years ago has been quite eventful, though not all of it has been positive. I wanted to give you a heads up that there are some photos at the end of my photoshoot that might be difficult to look at, so please be mindful when viewing them.

My journey has been a blur of pain and confusion. Until December of last year, everything seemed relatively normal to PPFT in regard to my adoption. Then, out of the blue, my owner reached out about surrendering me due to weak spots in the yard that let me escape and she was concerned I would get hurt. Despite asking for a surrender form, PPFT heard nothing back. It wasn't until weeks later that my owner finally submitted the form, prompting PPFT to find me a foster and plan my return to rescue. However, my owner was unresponsive and often canceled plans. Eventually, she vanished, ignoring all attempts to contact her.

Months later, I resurfaced in a distant city up for rehoming by a different family, but it was no coincidence. It turned out that my owner had intentionally bypassed the rescue's policies and rehomed me through a pet site, fully aware that PPFT was diligently working to welcome me back into their program. This new family couldn't keep me, leading PPFT to find me again and I cannot even start to thank them for their kindness in helping me get back to rescue after they found out I was one of their alumni. My coat was a mess and I had what looked like several hotspots on my body when I entered my foster home. I underwent treatment at the vet and they shaved off my matted fur, revealing the extent of my suffering (see attached photos). My body was a landscape of painful sores, The vet discovered that I had Pyoderma, a condition where pus accumulates in the skin due to a severe bacterial infection, had ravaged me. This infection had been left untreated for who knows how long, allowing it to spread and cause untold suffering. It wasn't just external; the vet suspected that internal organs were at risk due to the infection's severity so we definitely caught it just in time. It was so bad that the lightest touch would make me jump and run off, a sign of the intense pain I endured. Along with that, I was infested with fleas and ticks that were living in the mess that was my body, had hookworms&whipworms, and was underweight. The pain was constant, making me forget how to even be a dog. But now, with care and love, I'm healing. The photos show my journey from agony to recovery, and I'm eager for a fresh start, leaving this nightmare far behind.

Now, let's talk lifestyle preferences. I'm a balanced girl, like a well-mixed smoothie. I'm all for outings with my new family, especially strutting my stuff in public places. However, don't expect me to be the Energizer Bunny; I'm more of a laid-back diva who enjoys the spotlight in moderation. Getting into the car is a bit of a production for me; I'll give it my best shot, but sometimes I need a little boost, like a canine version of a red carpet entrance. Once I'm in, though, I'm like a seasoned Hollywood star, a bit unsure but ready for the ride! On the leash, I'm cooperative but still refining my sidewalk etiquette – I might zigzag a bit to check out the neighborhood smells! Hiking? Count me in! I'm ready to explore the great outdoors like a furry trailblazer. My energy level is like a well-mixed cocktail – a splash of excitement, a dash of chill vibes, and a twist of goofiness. And toys? Oh, I'll play with them, but don't be surprised if I decide they're old news after a while. As for water, it's still a mystery to me—I haven't decided if I'm a doggy-paddle pro or a landlubber at heart!

Meeting new people? Piece of cake! I might have a moment of "new person jitters," but if the other dogs are making friends, you bet I'll join the welcoming committee! And about jumping on people? Well, I try to keep my paws on the ground, but sometimes my enthusiasm just can't be contained! It's all part of my charm, right? When it comes to other dogs, I do great! They've been my furry therapists, helping me shed my past woes and embrace the carefree pup within. Playing chase, sharing toys, and swapping doggy tales—count me in! Cats? Oh, they're like the mysterious neighbors I see but never bother. We coexist peacefully, with me giving them the occasional curious sniff. Kids? Well, the tiny humans can be a bit overwhelming, especially if they're all zooming around like little rockets. But give me some older kids who get that I've had a ruff time, and we'll be trading secrets and sharing snacks in no time.

When it comes to house manners, I'm like the canine version of Martha Stewart—polished, well-behaved, and ready to impress!
Apartments? Sure, why not? As long as my family's home enough to keep up with my energy, I'll make any space feel like a doggy paradise. Potty training? Check! I've got my bathroom routine down pat. Kennel trained? Nah, I'm more of a free spirit who prefers the luxury of roaming the house. Plus, who needs a kennel when you've got comfy couches and cozy beds? Chewing on things? Not my style, but my foster home is like a doggy-proof fortress just in case I get curious. Barking? I'm more of a supportive barker—if my furry pals start the chorus, I'll chime in for moral support. But mostly, I'm a chill pup who saves her woofs for special occasions. Free roam of the house? Absolutely! I'm like the house-sitter of your dreams, keeping things tidy and entertained, especially with my furry squad for company when the humans are away.

So, who's ready to embark on this pawsome journey with me? Whether it's exploring new places, cuddling up for movie nights, or just enjoying the simple pleasures of life, I'm eager to share it all with my forever family. Let's wag our way into happiness together!
