My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Jocelyn – A Quiet Soul with a Gentle Spirit
Jocelyn is a tender, independent little dog who’s still learning to trust and feel comfortable in a home environment. She prefers not to be touched yet, but her foster describes her as very sweet and easy to live with—almost like not even having a dog.
She enjoys her routines and will politely remind her people when dinner is running late with a few barks. Jocelyn is partially potty trained and typically uses a potty pad indoors. Her favorite pastime is finding a sunny spot by the window to nap and watch the world go by.
At night, she likes to rest in her bed beside her foster’s, finding comfort in quiet companionship. If her foster gets up, Jocelyn will often dart away, showing that she still needs time and patience to build confidence.
Jocelyn is looking for a calm, understanding home that will give her the space and security she needs to continue coming out of her shell. With gentle care and consistency, she’ll thrive in her own quiet, special

Additional adoption info

It would be our privilege to help you find a puppy, dog, cat, kitten, horse, or other animal that suits your needs. Our knowledgeable hands-on staff is familiar with each of our rescue animals and will be glad to answer any questions you might have. Looking for a cat-friendly dog, a laid back kitten or a horse with a lot of personality? We can help.

To start the process, visit our refuge – and if you haven’t yet seen it, you will be pleasantly surprised. You will be able to interact with the animals in a stress-free environment, unlike a traditional kennel.

Once you have found the perfect, new companion, we will assist you in completing an application. Following a reference check, approval of the form and payment of the adoption fee, you will be able to take home your new pet.
Adoption Fees include:

• Dogs, six months and older: heartworm preventative, flea preventative, preventative worming and vaccinations. $150
• Puppies, under six months: preventative worming and spay/neuter procedure, if age appropriate, or certificate for procedure. $200
• Cats, six months or older: Felv/Fiv snap test, vaccinations, spay/neuter. No fee
• Kittens, under six months: Felv/Fiv snap test, vaccinations, and spay/neuter procedure, if age appropriate, or certificate for procedure. $125

More about this shelter

Alaqua Animal Refuge was founded in 2007 by Walton County, Fla.-resident Laurie Hood when she discovered that countless animals were being euthanized due to the lack of a no-kill shelter/adoption organization in the area. Since that time, Alaqua Animal Refuge has helped find homes for more than 20,000 animals. Currently, up to 200 animals are adopted per month from this unique shelter and adoption center, which serves as a true refuge for more than 500 animals at any given time.

As we grow and develop our facility and operations, we will adhere to our guiding purpose: To give neglected, lost and abandoned animals a chance at life.
