Minka is a very sweet cat. She’s tiny, dainty, and very light-weight. She’s had hyperthyroidism for a few years, but she still plays when she feels up to it. She’s affectionate and spends a lot of time on her “dad’s” lap while he works. Part of the night she sleeps on top of or next to her dad and there’s a great deal of purring and kneading before she settles down. =^..^=
Minka likes to play with strings and soft catnip toys, and will swat things off the table and bat them around to get attention. She used to chase balls around the house but has slowed down a bit in recent years.
This sweet girl is very vocal and always has plenty of things to say. She can be a picky eater, like most cats, but for years she would only eat one brand and flavor of canned cat food. Then, one day she got tired of it, and lately she’s been willing to try different foods! She likes her soft food to be very fresh. :) She also gets Hill’s Prescription Diet dry food for her teeth.
Minka is accustomed to a quiet house—and prefers to be the only animal. She’s not too keen on being carried; she won’t swat or scratch though, she’ll just turn around and look at you funny. Lol. Probably wouldn’t fare well with young children given that!
Her house manners are excellent and she uses the litter box like a champ.
The main reason her family is forced to rehome Minka is that she can get a bit restless at night, and her “dad” is about to start daily radiation treatments and needs his sleep. :( That said, according to the vet, the meds Minka is taking are working and she’s doing well. Her family just doesn’t have anywhere to put her at night given their current living situation.

The volunteers at Jake's Place are diverse group of dedicated animal lovers. Some of us have worked in rescue before, some are new to it. Some of us have known each other for years, others more recently involved. Having all come together in the last few years and finding that we had the same passion to help cats, we started thinking about the possibilities of putting our various expertise to work in creating something wonderful. While Jake's Place is a relatively new organization, our work goes back 14 years and our energy and drive is stronger than ever. We are committed to rescuing responsibly, fostering in loving & caring homes and finding the best possible forever homes.
