My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey there, I’m Maxx! I may look big and mighty at 87 pounds, but I'm just a big softie at heart. I'm a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees, possibly mixed with some Labrador Retriever charm. Let me tell you a bit about myself. First off, I've got manners! I was trained well, so you won't find me hopping onto your furniture or chewing up your favorite shoes. I'm also quite the gentleman; I know the word "no" and can follow commands like sit and give paw.

I found myself at PPFT after a rough stint in the shelter. Honestly, I was a bit of a mess—I felt more like a shadow than a dog, broken and defeated. When they told me I had a rescue, it was like a ray of hope piercing through the gloom. Entering my foster home was a bit overwhelming at first. I had to take my time to realize that I was in a place of safety and care, surrounded by humans who wanted nothing but the best for me. Maybe part of my initial hesitation stemmed from dealing with heartworms; it's no walk in the park, let me tell you. But even in that, I found solace knowing that this time, I was with people who wouldn't give up on me. Now, I'm undergoing treatment for those pesky heartworms, and I can already feel the winds of change blowing in. Soon enough, I'll be back on all fours, ready to embrace life with a newfound vigor. It's a journey, but one that's filled with love and healing every step of the way.

When it comes to lifestyle, I'm like a canine chameleon—adaptable and always up for fun! I'll strut my stuff on walks, sniffing out every adventure, and then switch gears to become a homebody, reveling in squeaky toy bliss with my beloved lamb chop. My foster home is a zen retreat, but throw in a trip to the Bark Park, and I'm all game for a round of tail-chasing madness! Now, let's talk about my precious lamb chop. It's my favorite toy, and I take care of it like it's my own little baby. Sometimes, I even insist on bringing it along on our walks. It's just too precious to leave behind! On the leash, I'm a mix of excitement and etiquette. I might start with a turbo-paced trot, but a gentle "Hey, slow down buddy!" is all I need to keep pace with my humans. Hiking? Oh, absolutely! I'll be the four-legged trailblazer leading the pack. I may need a little boost to hop into the car, but once I'm in, I transform into the coziest car companion this side of the dog park. Picture me: a bit nervous at first, doing my best impression of a laid-back passenger by plopping down for a snooze. Energy-wise, I'm like a rechargeable battery—medium with bursts of bouncy enthusiasm, especially when those magical walks are involved. Fetch isn't my forte, but give me a squeaky toy, and I'll serenade you with my squeaky symphony. As for water, well, let's just say I'm a bit of a mystery. Will I splash and dash, or prefer to spectate? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure—I'm a goofy, lovable goofball ready to bring laughter and tail wags to my forever family!

When it comes to meeting new folks, I'm quite the charmer with the ladies—tail wags, wiggles, the whole nine yards! It's like I've got a built-in "friendly mode" for the fairer gender. Now, when it comes to the gentlemen, I've got a bit of a Sherlock Holmes vibe going on. I'm cautious, observant, and I like to take my time to size things up. You might catch me giving a little growl here and there but fear not, it's just my way of saying, "Hey, let's make sure everything's copacetic before we become best buds." You see, I'm a protective pup at heart. It's important to note that my cautiousness around men might stem from not-so-great encounters in my past. Like any good detective, I've learned from my history. So, here's the deal: any gentlemen in my potential forever home should be prepared to give me my space and let me come around on my own terms. Think of it as a gentle dance—I'll take the lead when I'm ready, but until then, a bit of patience and respect for my boundaries go a long way. Once I feel comfortable and secure, I'll shower you with tail wags and affection, showing you just how loyal and loving I can be. So, to all the fellas out there, just remember to give me the space I need, and we'll be best buds in no time!

When it comes to other dogs, I've only had brief encounters on our walks, and let's just say I'm not their biggest fan. There's a bit of barking and growling involved, but hey, I'm just asserting my paw-sonal space. However, I haven't had the chance to really bond with another dog since there are none in my foster home, so who knows, I might surprise everyone and become best buds with a furry sibling with the right dog-experienced family! As for needing another dog in my new home, nah, I'm good flying solo. I'm like a lone wolf, content in my own fur and not looking for a sidekick. As for cats, I'm quite chill. My foster's cat and I have a mutual understanding—I'll give her some friendly sniffs, maybe a tail wag, but no drama here. Cats and I? We're like paw-some acquaintances. Now, onto the little humans! I haven't met any kids yet, but when I see them on walks, I wag my tail and give them my best "friendly pup" vibes. Although, I must admit, I can get a tad overexcited during playtime and may accidentally unleash my inner playful puppiness that might end up with a toddler tumble. Oops!

Despite my grand stature, I'm a master at apartment living. Just give me my daily dose of exercise, and I'm ready to conquer the coziest of spaces with style. Now, onto the nitty-gritty—potty training? Nailed it! I've got the whole outdoor bathroom thing down pat. As for kennel training, well, that's a bit of a mystery to me. Chewing on non-toy items? Not my jam. I prefer to keep your belongings intact while I indulge in some quality time with my squeaky lamb chop. I'm what you'd call a "strategic speaker." My vocal talents shine when I spot men and other dogs, like a furry alert system letting you know there's someone new on the scene. It's less of a bark-fest and more of a friendly reminder that I've got my eye on things. Rest assured, I'm not a constant chatterbox disrupting the peace. I'm just giving a little woof here and there, adding a touch of canine charm to the ambiance Now, let's talk about my freedom! I've earned the privilege of free-roaming the house, and let me tell you, I'm owning it! No chewed-up surprises, no litter box escapades (leave that to the feline friends), and certainly no daredevil antics on the furniture. I'm all about those top-notch manners, making me the paw-fect addition to your happy home!

From apartment adventures to squeaky lamb chop serenades, I'm the paw-fect mix of manners and mischief. I'm ready to bring laughter, love, and a whole lot of tail-wagging joy to my forever home. Let's make some unforgettable memories together!
