Candy is available for our foster to adopt program!
Candy aka Sweet Potato is a 4-year-old, 33-pound female terrier mix from the NYCACC. Candy unfortunately lost her owner due to a sudden death a few months ago and found herself in the NYCACC. In a surprising turn of events the next of kin of her owner reached out to us and we were able to find out more about sweet Candy, such that is her name is Candy :) Her previous owner loved her very much and had her for about 6 months before his passing. While his family is not able to reclaim her, we are honored they entrusted us to find her next forever home. Now let’s learn about Candy!
Just look at that underbite! This friendly and energetic girl loves people and loves to play. We were very pleasantly surprised to find that she is fully potty trained and has not had a single accident at her foster. She walks well on leash, but could use some reinforcement to help contain her excitement when out on the street. She has pervious crate and leash training experience but as she’s been moved around a lot as of recently she will need to brush up on the skills.
She always looks a bit confused when she looks at you, which is the cutest thing ever. Candy loves nothing more than to play with her doggie friends or human, and would prefer a dog her size or a bigger dog. We wouldn't recommend a home with very small animals because her prey instinct comes out with them. She loves hanging on the couch when she's not trying to get her doggie foster siblings to play. Older and mellow pups may not love her playfulness though :)
We're looking for an active home for her, and if there are other dogs, we recommend only medium to big dogs who love to play! We can see Candy thriving in a family setting or a single person home setting. She is honestly such an easy dog and will adapt well to any setting. She is really such an all around good girl we know her forever home would be lucky to have her!
Medical Note: Candy is showing levels of Stage 4/end stage kidney disease. We took to her to the vet for a routine urinalysis a couple weeks ago as she was urinating frequently, and we suspected a UTI. Unfortunately her lab work showed very poor kidney function. We are still trialing different medications and running diagnostics as she shows no other signs of being sick. She eats well, has normal energy, and since being on antibiotics her frequent urination has subsided. The vets believe that even if her lab work stays the same she will have many happy years ahead of her - with medication management.
To apply for Sweet Potato, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the animal is on our website, they are still available.
Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue.
