My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! I’m Eliot, a dog with a calm, adaptable and affectionate demeanor whose love for life shines through my every action. A gentle soul, I was first spotted weaving in and out of heavy traffic. After roaming for a few days, I fell asleep on a front porch, where I was eventually trapped with the help of some bacon, sausage and a stubborn human who would not give up on me.

Despite ending up on the street, it is clear I was loved at some point. I want to be your best friend and aim to please. I find joy in the simple pleasures, but my absolute favorite activity (aside from hanging out with you, of course) is chasing my orange and blue Nerf dog ball. Don’t worry, it comes with me.

I have mastered basic commands and am eager to learn more. Ask me to ‘sit’ and I can do one better – as soon as my butt hits the ground I will offer you my paw to shake (be prepared for sad eyes if you do not oblige). I am initially bashful with new people and surroundings, but quickly warm up. At this time, I am unsure of other dogs and would prefer to be the only pet in the house, though I may warm up with proper training and slow, structured introductions.

Other dogs may not be my favorite companions just yet, but with humans, I’m nothing but affectionate and eager to please. My social skills are blossoming. Initially cautious, I quickly adapt to newsituations, both human and environmental. I am a good boy on a leash and do not mind cars, bikes, lawnmowers, etc. Squirrels and rabbits are a different story. I am also a fan favorite when visiting the vet.

When my foster parents are at work, I am completely fine on my own during the day. I have had no accidents and love my crate, though I am also totally fine with free rein of the house. I eagerly greet my foster family when they return home.

When it comes to food, I am a gentleman. There's no guarding here, just a happy dog ready for his next trick in exchange for a tasty reward. I’m also gentle when accepting treats. I’m told my trainability is impressive, but I don’t like to brag.

Basic obedience? I’ve got it down. Commands like 'sit' and 'shake' are met with enthusiasm, especially when there's a treat involved.

I’m not just looking for a house to live in, but a home to love and be loved in return. With the right family, I’m sure to become not just a pet, but a cherished member of the family.

Go meet their pets

GHGSDR holds Meet and Greets @ several Petco stores in the Houston area each month, usually from 1pm to 4pm. Check our homepage for locations and dates.

On our homepage we list the names of the dogs that are expected to be at the event - check 1 or 2 days before the event.

We hope that you will come on out and meet some of our wonderful GSDs. Meet our volunteers and learn more about why GSDs are a wonderful breed!
See you there!

More about this rescue

GHGSDR volunteers are dedicated to saving as many German Shepherds in the Greater Houston Metro area as humanly possible - based on current resources of available foster homes, the rate at which we can find suitably matched adoptive homes, and of course, financial resources for veterinary care.

GHGSDR Shepherds mostly come from animal shelters where they are awaiting euthanasia. All of these Shepherd Dogs need loving, forever homes and families to call their own. We have several GSDs available for adoption and we regularly take in more Shepherds under our wings and into our Rescue Program, increasing the numbers of dogs available for adoption. Whenever we can, we also work with other dog rescue groups in Texas and nationwide to help ensure the safety and security of these wonderful animals.
