My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

From Skid Row to a Loving Furever Family!

Hi, pals! My name is Murphy. I’m a curious, confident charmer and an all-star cuddler. I’m a 3-year-old, 64-pound, Shepherd mix. I’m already neutered and an active, healthy guy. I was taken off the streets of LA, Skid Row to be exact. I was kept chained to a fence, eventually taken in by an LA shelter, and transferred to TAP. My rescue story has had quite a few bumps in the road, but I’m hopeful I’ll be cruising into a furever home with you in no time!

I’m a dog-friendly fella who loves the dog park. You can find me splashing in the ocean waves, playing tug-o-war with a rope, or even hide and seek! You can guess from my breed that I’m one smart cookie. I thrive when I’m both physically and mentally stimulated. I enjoy running with my human and getting plenty of exercise (which keeps me out of mischief!).

Based on my past, I can be scared around new people or situations. I can nip if triggered by fast/loud movements such as motorcycles, bikes, or children playing around. I prefer gentle and slow introductions and respecting my space while I get comfortable. It’s best if I’m in a kid-free, cat-free home with a confident human who can work on my confidence and training. Once I warm up, I’m extremely popular with houseguests and a total love bug! I have spent time at Kate Sessions with my foster family's friends and it was really nice!

I’m a super smart dude who can learn commands in less than 10 repetitions. I am fully bathroom and crate trained, and I don’t get separation anxiety. I have been known to counter-surf if there’s food within reach– can you blame me? I am working on muzzle training while on the leash so that I can start to gain confidence in public settings. I do well with positive reinforcement! I am also gentle-leader and muzzle trained. Wearing a gentle leader has helped me on walks so much.

If you’re looking for a ride-or-die, loyal guy, I’m the pup for you! I’m incredibly smart and would do best in an active household where I can exercise my body and mind. I would thrive with a confident human who can be my leader and show me how to be the best boy ever. The start of my life was a bit rocky, but I’m oh-so-appreciative of this second chance at life. I hope my journey leads me into a loving home with you!

My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
