My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Turn your heart up to the MAX!

Hi, there! My name is Max. I’m a super sweet boy who can’t wait to find a family of my own. I’m a 4-year-old, 70-pound German Shepherd mix. I’m already neutered and I’m a healthy guy. I was taken in by The Animal Pad when the shelter I was in moved out of state. I’ve gone through a lot of ruff changes in my short life, but I’m still hopeful that I’ll find love in a furever home!

I’m a big softie who loves his people, kids included. Because of all the ups and downs that I’ve gone through, I’m a very shy guy around strangers (people and pooches). With patience and practice, I’m building my confidence through daily positive reinforcement training. I am a master at working on my daily relaxation protocol and timed mat work. It will take me a little time to adjust to my new home, but once I do, my playful side comes out! I’m a happy guy who loves playing fetch and romping around the yard with my people. I have a huge, loyal heart and tons of potential! I just need a loving human who can teach me that the world isn’t such a scary place. To help manage my anxiety, I am taking Reconcile (~$45.00 for 1 month supply. Price depends on where purchased and market value), Gabapentin (~$45.00 for 1 month supply. Price depends on where purchased and market value), and Trazodone (~$10.00 for 1 month supply. Price depends on where purchased and market value). I am sensitive to outside noises, so I love my white noise machine to help drown out the hustle and bustle of the outside.

I’m a well-behaved boy who never has accidents in the house. I do well on walks but I pull a bit on the leash. I don’t get any separation anxiety and I’m happy chilling at the house while you run your errands. I’m a bit of a homebody! I bark when I hear people outside the door, so I’m a great guard dog. All in all, I’d love to keep working on my confidence so that I can become the best boy ever.

My ideal furever home is one that will give me lots of love and patience as I adjust to my new environment. I’d benefit from a quiet home and a big yard so that I have a safe space to play while I get comfortable. I’ve been through a lot of changes, but once I find that special family, I know that my pawsonality will shine. Turn your love to the MAX by adopting Max! My adoption fee is $250 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
