Sparrow is a big ol' hunk of love! And he would absolutely love you if you took him right back to living the good life that he's used to. Unfortunately, 8 year old Sparrow was turned in due to his elderly owners becoming unable to care for him any longer. Sparrow is doing his best not to let things get him down but he's obviously not cut out for shelter-life. He's a people-person and he just loves taking a stroll with a new friend and even chasing after the occasional toy or ball. Sparrow does tend to guard over his things though, like toys and food, so a home with no kids is best. He'll also need to be left alone while he takes his meals. Aside from that, he's a sweet ol' boy and although he's visually-impaired in one eye, that doesn't stop him from enjoying life. Sparrow is well-behaved and will sit and stay when asked, and he takes treats gently too. He's not a fan of cats but he's open to meeting other well-mannered dogs and seeing how it goes. Sparrow hopes you'll welcome him into your life soon! File#72202 4/30/24

More about this shelter
The Associated Humane Societies rescues stray and homeless animals, both domestic and wildlife, providing quality care and sanctuary until loving homes can be found. As a community-based organization, we provide low-cost veterinary care and humane education to promote responsible pet guardianship throughout New Jersey.
For over a century we have offered a haven to abused and neglected animals. Founded in 1906, AHS is the largest animal sheltering system in New Jersey, operating three shelters located in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls. Our Forked River facility also includes Popcorn Park. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused or elderly wildlife, exotic and farm animals, and birds.
The Society is a not for profit, 501(c)3 organization and we take pride in our devotion to the thousands of animals that come through our doors looking for a better life.
