My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

All AHHS animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations before adoption (if species appropriate).
Application and counseling is required prior to all adoptions.

Individuals interested in adopting a puppy are STRONGLY encouraged to download and read this FREE ebook. Even if you've raised puppies in the past, this is an invaluable resource to help make your new addition successful!

***FIV POSITIVE CAT-PLEASE READ***

Winston showed up at my doorstep in February. He has been a sweetheart since day one. Unfortunately, about a month ago, was bitten by the dog next door. At that point, I brought him inside. He is a gentle boy; he even let me give him a bath with no problem. He was dirty, but had no fleas, which makes me think he was probably dumped at some point. He's been neutered and is fully vaccinated. He is on flea prevention and was dewormed preventatively.  Unfortunately, he is FIV positive. However, there are many studies now that prove FIV is not nearly as easily spreadable as once thought.

Winston is super lovable, loves to be pet. Chin scratches are his favorite and loves to be brushed. He will nudge you and look for love as long as you let him. He will make somebody an extraordinary companion who's willing to give him the chance.  He loves to stick his tongue out which is the cutest! He also got along fine with the other outdoor cats and animals. He didn't seem to care about any of them. He's just an all-around great boy!

More about this rescue

Appalachian Highlands Humane Society, former known as The Humane Society of Washington County, was primarily an organization that provided spay and neuter funding for low income families. Spay and neutering is still at the front of our organization but we have also incorporated fostering and adoptions of animals. We are committed to see our community to become a no kill community. Our organization is not funded by local government, we rely only on spay neuter grants and fund raising. To continue to grow, we need donations for our programs and those links are available on our website under giving. We also need volunteers. The volunteer application is also available on our website. Working together we will become a no kill community. Please visit our website, www.ahumanesociety.org for more information.
