My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Happy!

We have all fallen in love with this 'Happy', goofy boy. He really lives up to his name! We don't know much about Happy's history but he seems to get along well with other dogs out on walks and has good recall when off-leash.

Happy loves to swim and is ready for an adopter that can provide him with lots of exercise and fun! Happy's ideal home would be someone that can take him on walks, runs, hikes, and swims and does not have any other animals or kids. Happy will need someone that can handle his pulling on leash and who will be dedicated to helping him learn loose leash walking. Happy has shown that he is a quick learner and is eager to please his people.

Sometimes when Happy gets overly excited he can try to hump other dogs, so Happy will need an adopter that can work on decreasing this behaviour. Due to this behaviour, we also feel as though Happy would do best as a solo dog in a home with no other animals. He may also have some resource guarding tendencies around food with other animals, so his new home will need to be conscious of that possibility. Happy has not shown any reactivity to other dogs on walks, he even remains calm when they bark at him! His "Happy" demeanor always shines through!

Happy would like to warm up to new people on his own time and terms, and would appreciate a calm and patient new family. He also does not like being picked up (unless it is for a car ride!). However, Happy still loves getting snuggles and belly rubs from those he knows.
Thank you for your interest in adopting! Do you think you could be Happy's person? Apply today!

Friendly tip: If you're looking for a surefire way to make your application to stand out, consider telling us a little bit about yourself in the "anything else you'd like us to know?" section! What brought you to adopt? Have you had any previous pets?

Visit the BC SPCA Victoria Center to potentially view this pet and apply to adopt in person; OR

Submit an online application and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit.

Due to the high number of applications, we will only be contacting potential matches to further review their interest. If you have any questions about an animal, please send us an email in lieu of calling. Our phone lines are extremely busy and we are not always able to answer every inquiry.

PLEASE NOTE that some animals may not be available for public viewing due to limited shelter space, medical and behavioral reasons, or other contributing factors. We strongly recommend interested parties submit an application using the above the link to arrange a potential meet and greet.

The Victoria Center is open for in-person adoption viewings Tuesday through Sunday, 12pm to 4pm, staff and animal well-being permitting.

The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
