My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOCATION: Austin, TX
DOB: 6/3/2019

Hi! I’m still with my owner right now. I’m looking for a foster (fosters get first option to adopt!). This way the team can get to know me better and get an all clear from the vet. Read my bio below!

Murphy is a handsome Merle tan point Great Dane. He has had a love filled journey so far, but recent changes in his life have led to some behavioral adjustments. Raised around other dogs and socialized at the dog park, Murphy did well and was eager to make friends and enjoy the company of his furry companions. However, with the onset of 2020 (Covid lockdown) and the arrival of a new addition to his family—a baby—Murphy's behavior changed a bit
Despite his previous socialization efforts, Murphy began displaying unpredictable behavior around both dogs and people. He became seemingly protective and excitable, especially in unfamiliar situations. There were a few incidents that raised concerns, including an encounter with a visiting Chihuahua, though thankfully no injuries occurred.
To ensure Murphy and everyone’s well-being, it's clear that he would do best in a home without other dogs or cats, as well as a kid-free zone. While he hasn't shown aggression towards children, some caution is warranted, especially around his food bowl. Additionally, his prey drive makes small animals a no-go.
Despite these challenges, Murphy is a sweetheart with his people. He's potty trained, loves to play fetch, and thrives on the attention and affection of his family. He requires slow introductions with new people, but once he feels comfortable and sees that his people are comfortable, he's all about soaking up the love.
With the right family, committed to providing him with the guidance and support he needs, Murphy has endless potential. He requires an experienced handler who can continue his socialization and muzzle training, and a home with a 6-foot privacy fence in a more rural setting is being recommended.
Though it's a heartbreaking decision for his owners, they know that rehoming Murphy is in his best interest. With his unique markings and loving personality, Murphy is sure to capture the hearts of his new family and bring joy and companionship to a patient, dedicated adopter.

More about this rescue

To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment while providing medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program until we are able to provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring, and permanent home that will ensure a good quality of life they deserve.

To assist owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering or heartworm treatment as funds allow while also educating owners on affordable, local spay/neuter clinics, spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, nutrition, and obedience. Additionally, we want to be a link point to other rescues and clubs. Raising awareness around rescues and the Great Dane breed is of great importance to us.

We have been rescuing Great Danes since 2011 and we take pride in the collective love, concern, and dedication we have given to the misunderstood and forgotten Danes. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes and to provide them safety and their birthright to a quality of life filled with love and dignity. You can help us achieve our mission by donating funds, items from our wishlist, items of relevance, your time through volunteering, or by lending your home as a foster.
