My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sable was rescued with another cat when the owner decided to give up both of them. She is sweet, quiet and gentle, purring quietly when she is cuddled and held. She likes to be brushed. She is low key, spending most of her day curled up in a fuzzy bed and watching birds and squirrels out the window. She doesn't show any inclination to play with toys. She may need a little extra time to gain her confidence in a new environment. She likes to have several options available to hide away when she wants to, especially cave-style beds in quiet places. With her "couch potato" demeanor, she would make a good companion for someone specifically looking for a laid-back cat that just chills out with their human and isn't expected to be active.

We do not know if she has been around small children or dogs, but due to her own quietness her foster mom is sure that a noisy household would be scary or annoying to her. She is currently living with other cats and gets along with them fine, though she has not bonded with any. She would be fine as an only cat to get all the human attention, but she can also live with another cat as long as there is no expectation that she will want to become that cat's best friend.

Sable is accustomed to using a large, high-sided litterbox with unscented Worlds Best corn litter. She gets a full can of Fancy Feast every morning and she clearly looks forward to the juicy wet food -- she will vocalize and prance/dance around a little until the bowl is put on the floor. She also has 24/7 access to a high quality chicken based, grain-free kibble.

Sable was born October 2023. She is spayed, vaccinated, tested negative for FIVFeLV, and has been micro chipped. Sable is not solid black, she has whisps of white on her chest and belly.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

At the adoption fairs, if you meet a kitten or cat that you want to adopt, you will be asked to complete an application and contract and leave a check for the adoption fee ($120 for an adult or $145 for un-neutered kitten of which $50 is a deposit that is refunded after you provide 4Paws proof of sterilization). We ask that you pay the adoption fee up front at the fairs in order to “put a hold” on the cat until your application is processed. If your application is not approved, your check is returned to you.

Neither cats nor kittens are sent to their new homes on the day of the fair. It usually takes 4-5 days to process the application before the cat can go to his or her adoptive home. Pre-approval is an option, though. To accelerate the adoption process, you can fax a completed application and contract to us at 703-560-9795 a few days before the fair. Adoption Applications are available on this website.

Go meet their pets

Adoption fairs are held once or twice a month at various PETCO stores in Northern Virginia. The adoption fairs are usually held on Saturday’s from 1:00 to 5:00. Between 30 and 60 cats and kittens are shown for adoption at each fair—with the larger fairs generally occurring April through October.

While they are waiting to find permanent loving homes, our cats temporarily live in foster homes. The foster families bring the cats and kittens to the adoption fairs to be seen by potential adopters. Applicants have the opportunity to handle the cats and in some cases, meet the foster parents who can provide additional insight into a cat’s habits and personality.
