My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Diesel ACCT-A-163153 is a 9-month-old male who came in as an owner surrender on 5/7. His elderly owner was unable to provide him the care he needs to thrive. In-shelter he's continued to display the puppy hype and joie de vivre he came in with, but the limited ability to show off his explosive cuteness has been starting to bug him! He can't wait to find a forever family who'll give him the playtime and rollicking fun he needs to flourish.

Behavioral notes:

Per staff on 5/10, "noted leash biting and mouthing at hands and clothes when trying to take Diesel out for a walk yesterday. He is being PCRed today, so I cannot see the behavior for myself, but will get him out once he is cleared to see the extent of his behaviors.

During a behavioral assessment on 5/8, staff noted: "Diesel is a very happy and wiggly puppy! Outside he had a LOT of energy and was zooming around, jumping, playing and picking up any toy he could. He enjoyed running around the yard and would then dart back over to me soliciting attention and seeking out pets. He allowed all over petting and would lean against me and flop over for belly rubs often. he was tolerant to all handling and was a very affectionate little guy outside! He could definitely use help with his manners as he gets mouthy and lacks boundaries. He is very toy and treat motivated so using them in training would be helpful for him!

Per staff on 5/7, "Upon intake Diesel was very stressed, panting hard and going to the door looking for an exit. He was easily distracted with food and didn't need restraint for exam.

According to his surrender notes, Diesel uses "pee pads inside and outside, goes to sleep at 8:00 pm, has never had table food, loves ice water and cubes, knows basic commands and understands clicker and treats. In addition, they noted that though he doesn't live with children, he likes being around them; he loves to be groomed and likes his ears cleaned; and he likes baby carrots, cucumbers, and sliced apples.

Medical notes:

Per staff on 5/14, Diesel was rechecked for stress. Staff observed him at a 2/5 on the FAS scale: "Soliciting attention at the kennel door, jumping up on the door, licking the air, no signs of aggression and patient did not bark. Gabapentin was continued as prescribed.

On 5/10, Diesel was diagnosed with a URI. a PCR test came back positive solely for coronavirus (negative for pneumovirus).

During an intake exam on 5/7, staff found Diesel to be in good general health, besides his red eyes and hard panting, and "very food motivated.
