Princess and Star are two of the sweetest little old ladies you'll ever meet! Princess, a 13 year old yorkie, and Star, a 14 year old shihtzu, were turned in due to their elderly owner becoming unable to care for them any longer. The ladies were quite neglected and required good, long spa days. Once cleaned up, the real issues were uncovered. Princess has heart disease which causes a frequent cough and thyroid disease too. Star has liver disease. Both girls had many, if not all teeth removed as well. The girls are both on medications to treat their conditions but they beg you, please don't let this stop you from giving them the fabulous home that they deserve. The girls are incredibly loving, sweet, affectionate, and they still have plenty of spring in their step. They're non-reactive to other mild-mannered dogs and cats that don't cause them any grief. They'd love a relaxing, commotion-free home where they can live out their lives together in peace and happiness. They sure hope you'll give them a chance! More about this shelter
The Associated Humane Societies rescues stray and homeless animals, both domestic and wildlife, providing quality care and sanctuary until loving homes can be found. As a community-based organization, we provide low-cost veterinary care and humane education to promote responsible pet guardianship throughout New Jersey.
For over a century we have offered a haven to abused and neglected animals. Founded in 1906, AHS is the largest animal sheltering system in New Jersey, operating three shelters located in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls. Our Forked River facility also includes Popcorn Park. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused or elderly wildlife, exotic and farm animals, and birds.
The Society is a not for profit, 501(c)3 organization and we take pride in our devotion to the thousands of animals that come through our doors looking for a better life.
