My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

There's nothing quite like young dog energy and silliness...and then they put their beautiful heads quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm breath. These very loving and sweet as can be dogs are so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them alone and hungry on busy urban streets or at a high-kill shelter scheduled for euthanasia due to a lack of space.

Ellie, at just about 2 - 3 years old and 37 lbs was facing the end of her life before it ever really began. Farfel's rescue partners are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this gorgeous girl with the great temperament..they rescued Ellie just in time to spare her life.

Ellie is starting out with great energy. The excellent results of her temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a brand new life. She's also gorgeous...with dark eyes displaying wisdom far beyond her years.

Ellie has the potential for a stunning and shining non-shedding coat (excellent for those with allergy concerns). Her hair is currently shelter-tired but once on a regular protocol of care, it will be cottony-soft and shining with great health. Ellie will require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are excellent regimens for general longevity and hair care) to keep her coat super-healthy, shining and as soft as cotton.

Ellie is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's also so loving and cuddly. Ellie would be very excited to be a couch or bed dog and snuggle with her favorite people at the end of an active day. She's also SO smart and very engaging - very typical of the Schnauzer and Poodle breeds (Schnoodle).

We're open to Ellie finding her forever home with an energetic retired couple or individual with the desire to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart pup. Ellie enjoys her relationships with all humans and dogs. We would prefer, however, to place her in a home with older kids (tail pulling or rough treatment by young kids will create an adult dog that's fearful of children). Older kids can be active participants in a training regimen and friendship that's so important in a dog's development. Ellie enjoys her relationships with other dogs as well and would love playing hard and then enjoying the sunshine together on a beautiful day.

This 2.5 year old (an almost perfect age..old enough to be past babyish behaviors and young enough to have many, many healthy and active years ahead) and 37 lb cutie-pie (a great size for long hikes and then snuggling close all night long) truly lights up when she feels like she's done a good job. Some serious belly rubs and kind words will send her over the moon. Ellie would love nothing more than to be a family dog and with a bit of post-shelter confidence and love, she will be overjoyed that she's finally found her forever family.

We are searching for a very loving and involved family for Ellie. This sensitive pup wouldn't be happy being alone for the long hours of a full-time job outside of the home. A family that works from a home-based office (to love Ellie up periodically throughout the day) would be perfect for this wonderful companion. Active, dog-crazy retirees would also be an excellent match for this girl that has so much love to give as a full- time best friend.

Ellie doesn't require another dog to be happy...she loves her people dearly and if they're attentive and loving, this sweet and loyal girl will be fulfilled and very happy. If a gentle dog is already part of a family, that's great with Ellie as well. She enjoys her time spent in the company of a gentle canine and that dog will become Ellie's best friend.

Ellie will do well with any loving guardian who's invested in spending time with their pup. She's so pleasant and portable that she can be a part of any adventure. It can be a leisurely walk socializing with neighbors, a picnic in the park or a visit with family or friends. A car ride is also always fun, especially if it leads to a fun, dog-loving spot. At day's end, a spot on the bed all night beside her favorite humans will speak to the loving nature of this very sweet dog.

Ellie will be up to date on her vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs. She will also be spayed to fulfill our commitment to zero population growth in the canine community.

Ellie will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 5/10/2024. Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet and loyal best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Ellie please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving puppy. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

An Adoption Application and an Adoption Contract must be completed before any dog can begin their one week foster. Our average adoption fee is $695. This amount serves to cover vetting, spay/neuter, all vaccinations, temperament testing, transport, a microchip, harness, food, and treats.
Our dogs come from Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and rural Colorado.

Go meet their pets

Pets are transported from the southern states every week. Almost 100% of the time, the dogs are spoken for as a result of adoption applications that can be referenced under Adoption at farfelsrescue.com. We study the applications. If the app indicates there is a match, followed up by a home visit and reference checks, the process moves to the next step. The adopter is committing to a one week foster (of course the dog can be returned at any time prior), and can then choose to finalize the adoption.

More about this rescue

We own a pet boutique named Farfel's Farm & Rescue on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. We have had the good fortune to find our niche in the Boulder community and experience success. We felt it very important to "pay it forward" in gratitude. We couldn't think of a better endeavor than to save dogs who were out of time in the southern states, yet had been identified with great temperaments. We dedicate our efforts to their good health and ultimate wonderful, permanent homes.
