When you get to know Sox he is a super sweet, funny, and affectionate little guy. He does well with friendly dogs and cats. He is house trained once he knows the routine. Sox is used to sleeping and hanging out in a safe space sectioned off just for him. He is a small guy but has big feelings as any little chihuahua does, so having a place to go to decompress is very helpful for him. He is very particular and can be stubborn and has been known to throw a few temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way. However, Sox thrives on praise and love. He will need someone to go slow and keep helping build his confidence and his social skills. Once you earn his trust he will work very hard to please his person and be a good boy but it will be something that needs to be managed and is why he will need to go to an experienced adopter. He does walk well on a leash and goes into his carrier for car rides and vet visits with no issue.

Our generous community raised enough money for his heart surgery and since January he's been recovering in a foster home. He does take heart meds twice a day and will require a high quality diet. The good news is he's so small and doesn't need much. His weight will need to be managed and monitored. You wont be disappointed in the love this guy has to give and the laughs he will bring to your life.

**If you are unable to pay the adoption fee ($250 and up), we are unable to place a dog in your care. Being unable to meet the financial obligations of pet care (recurrent or emergent) is one of many reasons why so many of these pets end up in rescue. It's not lack of love.**
We require an adoption application, and then we will check references. We also check with vets. If the person is not LOCAL then we will partner with a local animal control to complete a home visit.
There are adoption fees associated with the costs of veterinary care of the pet. We require an adoption contract to be signed to finalize the adoption process and we have an agreement that all our pets are to be Chihuahua Rescue Indiana Inc. pets for LIFE. In other words, in the event that they can not stay in their adoptive home, they are not to be surrendered to another individual or rescue.

Chihuahua Rescue Indiana Inc. is a non profit, all volunteer rescue working with Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes. The pets are housed in individual volunteer foster homes, not kennels or shelters until they are adopted permanently. We get to know our animals and therefore can tell the potential adopter what the traits of the animal are and what home would be the best for the pet.
