My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Burke was just a puppy when he was found as a stray in the summer of 2023. He needed some cleaning up, and he also needed to learn how to become a happy, well-rounded member of society. Fast forward to now, and here's Burke! He's a 1 1/2 year old husky mix that came to us from our sister shelters and he's had loads of training since his arrival. Burke is totally transformed, but he'll need a home where his training is reinforced so he keeps on being his best self! Don't get Burke wrong at all: he never means any harm! But he can get mouthy while playing if you let him. He knows very well how to behave though. Burke is friendly, sweet, happy, he listens intently, he LOVES to swim, fetch, and have a great time! Burke has lots of energy and a home with a nice yard to exercise in would be ideal. He needs a cat and kid-free home but he loves other dogs! He would love you forever if you took him on outings and adventures, and gave him the home of his dreams, forever. Please give bubbly Burke a chance! More about this shelter

The Associated Humane Societies rescues stray and homeless animals, both domestic and wildlife, providing quality care and sanctuary until loving homes can be found. As a community-based organization, we provide low-cost veterinary care and humane education to promote responsible pet guardianship throughout New Jersey.

For over a century we have offered a haven to abused and neglected animals. Founded in 1906, AHS is the largest animal sheltering system in New Jersey, operating three shelters located in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls. Our Forked River facility also includes Popcorn Park. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused or elderly wildlife, exotic and farm animals, and birds.

The Society is a not for profit, 501(c)3 organization and we take pride in our devotion to the thousands of animals that come through our doors looking for a better life.

Please visit our website AHSCares.org for additional information.
