My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MICRO KITTY ALERT! When we first got Opal we though she was a six-month-old kitten...turns out she is just a teeny tiny adult!

Opal came to Little Beans from the Los Banos Animal Shelter and was malnourished, matted, and could barely walk. We thought maybe she had an injury to her back legs, but xrays and diagnostics couldn't find anything wrong. As she recovered in foster care and gained weight, we realized Opal was a very special kitty - one with Cerebral Hypoplasia!

Cerebral Hypoplasia, commonly known as CH, is a condition caused by the stunted growth of the cerebellum - the part of the brain responsible for motor function! This means Opal has some difficulty walking and can be wobbly or unsteady on her feet. Luckily, Opal's case is relatively mild and she can still do everything a normal cat can do - she might just fall over once or twice while doing it. She can use a litter box just fine, but prefers ones with lower openings.

Opal is a sweet and quiet little cat who mostly keeps to herself. She does get the occasional energy streak and will go prancing through the house at full speed - so carpets are definitely handy to keep her from sliding into walls!! But she is getting around just fine in a house with hardwood floors :)

Opal gets along well with other cats and is very gentle and would be fine in a house with children - but she would do just as well in a quiet household as a single pet.
