My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Looking like a hairless wonder, is our boy Brodie. While his looks may not do him justice, this little guy has a heart of gold. Coming from a pretty poor background, it has taken some time to get this pup used to being just that, a dog again. Brodie came to Satchel's a year ago, terrified of water, avoiding anything other than his water bowl. His skin was in desperate need of healing, and medicated baths were a top priority. He was not well socialized and was reluctant to allow touching or petting.

Fast forward a year and we have a different dog! With the help of staff and volunteers, his skin is looking so much better, although his hair will not totally grow back, and he has learnt to trust that the human hand shows love and tenderness. Brodie goes home most weekends with his Woof Pack leader. There are four other dogs in the home and Brodie has been slowly introduced to them all making every weekend a fun and social time for Brodie. Brodie is now a part of the "pack", accepted by the entire family, and enjoys freedom of a house, pool, and yard every weekend. Toys are shared, beds are shared, and walks are taken in tandem.

The family is unable to take on a fifth dog permanently but has helped prepare Brodie for his new forever home. Brodie loves to give affection and to receive affection. Any family lucky enough to add Brodie to their lives will enjoy a loving, loyal, devoted friend. For an appointment to meet this 6-year-old boy, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found at satchelslastresort.org.

More about this rescue

Satchel's Last Resort is a no-kill animal shelter/sanctuary whose mission is to Rescue, Rehab and Rehome dogs and cats with nowhere else to go because of breed, behavior or medical issues.

Each resident that comes to Satchel’s has its own unique and personal history. We get to know each one individually – favorite toy, favorite game, favorite foods. The dogs are housed in an airy shelter with spacious kennels, take three or four romps in the playard or walks per day, and even take car rides to let their fur flap in the wind. Cats are housed in two open cat room settings and receive social interaction with staff and volunteers every day. Most important to us -- we keep our dogs and cats safe from other residents and from humans who may want to harm them.

Trainers work with the dogs a few times a week to teach them that they can trust humans and other animals. Staff and volunteers work with our cats to keep them socialized or help them learn to trust again. We actively seek forever homes tailored to the needs of every individual pet so that they can live the rest of their lives among a family of their own.

At Satchel’s Last Resort, we believe that by harnessing the unconditional love that the dogs and cats in our sanctuary put forth everyday, the world becomes a brighter place for animals and people. Each and everyday we try to give a little of their love back – back to the pets and back to our community.
