My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Arrival story: Baby was surrendered to a rural shelter by her family after their son was severely injured in an accident. The family told the shelter staff that their son had a long road to recovery and that it was too risky for him to have an active dog in the house, given his fragile state. We believe the family did love Baby. They got her shots, had her spayed, and even bought a dog license; all of which are things we don't often see in this rural area. Sadly, the dogs that are the most loved in their former home tend to be the ones who have the hardest time adjusting to a shelter or kennel setting. The shelter director asked us to take Baby because she was scared and didn't "show" well at the kennel.

Approximate age / weight: 4 years old (DOB approx. April 2006) and 53 lbs.

Personality: Baby has beautiful eyes and her fur is a pretty reddish-brown color. She is very affectionate and has bonded quickly to her foster mom, so we know she'll bond quickly to her new family. She's a smart girl who is housebroken and crate trained, but her foster mom says Baby doesn't seem to need crating because of her good house manners. Baby has been left alone for two hours outside of her crate and has not bothered anything in the house.

Baby loves to go for walks and walks nicely on a leash when she is wearing a Halti (head collar). She has tons of fun chasing the squirrels in the yard and playing tug of war. She loves her stuffed toys, too! She has a moderate energy level and settles down nicely after a walk or playtime. Baby knows her basic commands of sit, come, off, fetch and drop.

Baby is friendly to the dog next door, but we do not know how she is with cats.

Forever home: Baby is looking for a family who will take her for walks, play tug of war, and give her love and security for the rest of her life. She doesn't seem to care about having a doggy playmate. What she wants more than anything is a family to call her very own!

We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To view our dogs, please check www.waggintailsdogrescue.org for the dates of our next adoption events. To meet a dog in person, please see our event calendar for the latest information. Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group).

Please be kind to our volunteers who have made rescue a second job that they do in their spare time after coming home from full-time jobs. E-mail inquiries will be answered much more quickly than phone inquiries; our phone number is a voice mailbox only.

Thank you for your support of rescue and your interest in a rescue dog!
