My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mya is a pure-bred tri-color smooth collie that is 18 months old. She is a small show quality collie and weighs 45 pounds. She has had all of her shots, is spayed, healthy, and her adoption fee will be $350.

Mya has been in foster care for a month now and what a transformation. I mistook some of her behavior, and now have realized that she just needed to settle in. She has blossomed into a perfect collie girl, and I guess she always was.

Mya is sweet, loving and quiet. She is no longer the shy girl I first met. She gets along with my cats, so much so that I can leave her inside my house for hours, alone with my cats. But, as I said before, my cats are very dog savvy, and they know not to run when there are dogs around. Im still sure that Mya would chase a cat if it ran, as most dogs would, but she would not hurt them. She has respect for them in the house. Outside she whines and carries on, like she wants them to run. More like she wants to play, not harm. So still she should only go to a home with very dog savvy cats.

Mya is great with my grand children, very sweet. But she is sensitive, as a collie should be, and might be afraid of sudden fast movements or noises. This is typical of a lot of collies. I would only place her with older, more quiet children, for her sake.

Mya is great with my other dogs. But she still is food aggressive with her sister Tara. This could be something that was established when they were tiny puppies. She has established dominance over her sister, only at meal times. The rest of the time they play together, like best friends. She has not tried to dominate any of my other 3 dogs.

Mya has also learned not to get into the waste paper basket. But like I said before, she still does like to pick things up and carry them around. But, she has never chewed anything up. Even the carrying things around part, has improved. She has learned that shoes are off limits. Socks are a different story, I still find one or two out in the yard sometimes.

Mya is still very young, yet would already make a great companion. She loves to run and play. She does not jump up on people. She truly is a very good girl for her young age...and smart. Updated 8.23.2010.
