Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This handsome American English Coonhound didn’t have an easy start in life—he had to fight for every scrap, every safe place, and every bit of kindness. That tough beginning shaped him, and while he’s made incredible progress, it also means he carries some emotional scars.
Today, Carhartt is safe, loved, and thriving, but he's still learning that he doesn’t have to guard what’s his anymore. He does show resource guarding behavior, especially around food or high-value items, and needs an experienced, patient adopter
What Carhartt truly wants is connection. He bonds deeply with his people, has that classic hound loyalty, and finds peace in predictable routines. He does well on walks, enjoys the outdoors, and a good comfy bed to lay in.
Carhartt would do best in a calm, adult-only home as children tend to not understand these types of behaviors. He’s not aggressive, just protective of what he’s learned to value. In the right environment, he will continue to blossom into the amazing dog he was always meant to be.
If you believe in second chances and understand that healing takes time, Carhartt is ready to meet you. He’s a reminder that even the roughest beginnings can lead to beautiful futures, with the right person by your side.
