Peppa was born partially blind and deaf as the result of accidental breeding of two dogs with merle-patterned coats. This genetic condition is known as ''double merle.'' Double merles can live full, happy lives with the appropriate levels of care and support.
Blind and deaf dogs can learn easily through positive reinforcement and touch cues. At Hawaii Island Humane Society, we are dedicated to advocating for blind and deaf dogs like Peppa and are here to support their future families in helping their new dog grow and thrive.
Here is what my friends at Hawaii Island Humane Society have to say about me:
- I am sweet and affectionate when meeting new people!
- I love playing with toys (especially puzzle toys), and am treat motivated! I would love to learn more through positive reinforcement training.
- I am a curious, smart, and athletic good girl.
- When meeting other dogs I am goofy and playful! I enjoy making new dog friends.
- I love the water, and am an athletic young girl who would make a great adventure and hiking companion!
