Manatee’s story is a tough one. She has been in and out of the shelter since 2021, with her most recent return in November 2024. Each time she’s been adopted or fostered, she’s come back due to issues with other dogs — and she is also not good with cats. At 9 years old, the shelter is starting to take its toll on her, and she desperately needs a calm, loving home where she can finally stay for good.
The challenges:
-Highly reactive to other dogs and cats.
-Difficult to redirect once triggered by barking or the presence of other dogs.
-Needs a home where she will not encounter other pets or frequent dog distractions.
-Has a history of multiple returns, all related to her reactivity.
The good stuff:
-Inside the home, Manatee is perfect — house-trained, calm, and affectionate.
-Loves having a big yard to stretch her legs and release energy.
-Very sweet with her people and bonds closely once she feels secure.
-At 9 years old, she still has energy to play but also loves to relax in a quiet space.
-Has had foster parents who describe her as wonderful indoors and eager to please when not distracted by other animals.
Who she needs:
Manatee is looking for her unicorn — a calm, pet-free home where she can live out her golden years without the stress of other animals around her. She needs a secure yard, a safe and quiet environment, and someone patient and committed to her. She has been waiting far too long and is struggling in the shelter — she needs someone to give her the peaceful retirement she deserves.
