My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Caramel is a beautiful, active girl who is a true hound through and through! She`s a high-energy dog with a huge capacity for love, but she`s looking for a dedicated partner who understands her unique needs and will let her nose lead the way.

When Caramel first arrived, she was described as playful, great with kids, and a lover of car rides and tug-of-war. After she was with us a while, Caramel was adopted, but that home wasn’t the right fit. Her return to the shelter found her stressed, confused, and needing a fresh start.

Caramel’s Journey & Triumph:

Life in the shelter is tough for a sensitive girl like Caramel, who finds the lack of space and constant activity stressful. But she thrives when she gets to be a hound:

Scent Detective: She is a world-class sniffer! Once her incredible nose is satisfied (on long walks, field trips, or scent work), her happy, outgoing personality shines through. We`ve seen her be friendly and curious meeting people at places like Home Depot!

Best Friend Potential: She bonds deeply and will be a loyal, loving companion to her person. With the right environment and handler, she will be the best friend you could ever want.

Enrichment Enthusiast: We work hard to keep her busy with enrichment, and she`s ready to bring that fun, playful energy into your home!

The Commitment Caramel Needs:

Caramel needs a calm, committed home to truly shine. Her history has made her highly reactive to other animals, and she requires a very specific setup:

The Only Pet: Absolutely no other dogs, cats, or small animals in the home. Caramel gets highly aroused and defensive around other pets.

The Right Training: Her new family needs to use only positive, fear-free training methods. We encourage her adopters to work with a Certified Trainer and will be happy to recommend someone.

Separation Help: She has exhibited destructive behaviors when left alone, suggesting separation anxiety. This can be managed with guidance, proper decompression, and a commitment to meeting her mental and physical needs.

Wide Open Spaces: She will thrive in a home with plenty of safe, wide open space where she can engage her hound instincts, dig (her favorite!), and let her energy out!

We are committed to helping Caramel succeed. If you are an experienced, active adopter ready to give this deserving girl the decompression, routine, and positive guidance she needs, you will find a de
