My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This little love bug is Ham, aka Hamilton or Hammy. He is full grown at 26lbs and is such a sweetheart. He loves other dogs and goes crazy for booty scratches. He is very shy at first but will love you to death if you give him time to warm up to you! AND if you don't mind getting nipped at a time or two. This is his defense mechanism due to not being treated very well before he came here. We were all nipped at once or twice the first month he was here, and he does it randomly when he is scared, but for the most part he has stopped. Ham has a very gentle nature and you can tell he just wants to be loved. It will just take a little time for him to get used to you and a new environment. Ham is house-trained, neutered and up to date on shots. We charge a $150 adoption fee for shelter dogs, $200 for Paws in Prison trained dogs, and $75 for cats. To make application to adopt a pet you will need to go to our website schspets.org and complete an online application and someone will call you to discuss adoption process and to make an appointment to visit our shelter and cat cottage.

Our shelter is located at 17379 Highway 9 South in Mountain View, AR 72560. We are open M-Sat., from 2:00 to 5:00 and mornings by appointment only by calling 870-269-5200.

More about this shelter

The Stone County Humane Society is a 501(C)(3) private organization, not a government entity that was formed in 1999. We rescue dogs and cats and are a no-kill shelter but we are not an open take in facility. We are currently operating from our new shelter building recently completed in August 2016 and a cat cottage. Our organization is managed by a volunteer board of 10 individuals and a full-time paid employee shelter manager that handles the day to day operations, and three part-time paid employees that feed and care for the animals and keep the facility clean. Most of our daily operations are funded by proceeds from a Second Chance Shop in town and donations from individuals. We also provide low cost spay/neuter clinics to the people of our county with help from a local vet.
