My basic info
Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Gold
Our adoption process can be found on our website here: www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/process
Estimated birth date: 1/29/24
Personality: Curious, Hesitant, Lazy, Nervous, Quiet, Sweet, Very shy (you are unable to touch this animal without it running away or being fearful, etc)
Favorite treats: Meal worms! pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, cheerios, peas
Current Diet: Oxbow Essentials Adult Rat Food.
Favorite toys and activities: they're big fans of building their nests. give them a bunch of newspapers and they'll be busy! they also love digging and rolling their ball toys around.
Potty trained: No.
This animal’s daily routine: Not really. mostly asleep during the day, maybe building their nests. They love to dig and LOVE snuggling with each other.
BFF: Nitrogen, Copper, and Gold are a bonded trio and must be adopted as a group.
Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: They've seen our large dogs and don't seem to mind them. Sometimes our cat goes into the room and they haven’t shown any interest or anxiety either, but the cat also ignores them.
Has this animal been exposed to children? What was their reaction? Yes, 12 year old. Nothing different than with an adult. But also the 13-yo knows how to interact with rats properly
Health concerns: None
Behavioral concerns: Gold is in our trust training program.
12/17/24 update: Cuddle sack time, and slowly putting hands in and outside of cage to acclimate the rats to us
03/23/25 update: We’ve worked on taking them out for free roam time by hand. And also giving them treats by hand. We will continue working on cuddling time as well
5/24/25 update: We've been trying to get them used to our hands giving them treats (sometimes they take a treat from our hands) and cuddle sack time. They're still pretty nervous guys.
Other notes: Even though they are nervous they are so sweet. We've caught them boggling a time or two which is absolutely adorable! They love each other and love to snuggle with each other.
