Their adoption process

Our adoption process is simple! Please come to the shelter and meet all of our adoptable animals and pick out which one would be the best fit for you and your family. Then you have to fill out our adoption application. After the adoption application is approved, we will finish the adoption and allow you take your new family member home.

If you are a renter, please bring proof from your landlord stating that you have their permission to have pets and bring a phone number where we can reach them.

Adoption steps

  1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
    1. We have tons of adoptable small pets, dogs, and cats available to meet at our shelter!
  2. Submit Application
    1. Renters, Please bring a statement from your landlord saying that you have their permission to have pets, it must include a phone number!
  3. Approve Application
    1. We will double check all information on the application including checking with landlords and completing background checks on applicants.
  4. Pay Fee
  5. Take the Pet Home

As a private, non-profit organization, the Animal Shelter Society exists to promote and protect the health, safety and welfare of homeless animals in Muskingum County through the dedicated efforts of employees and volunteers and the generous support of our caring community.

We will strive to accomplish our Mission by focusing our efforts on:
•The efficient and effective adoption of homeless animals to responsible owners;
•The diligent promotion of spay and neuter to curb the population of unwanted animals;
•The recruitment and training of knowledgeable staff, dedicated volunteers and
community supporters;
•The continuous public education programs on the prevention of cruelty to animals;
•The prudent stewardship of the Shelter’s tangible and intangible assets.
