ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:
ADOPTION FEE: WAIVED! I'M PART OF THE REWARDS PROGRAM AND MY ADOPTION FEE HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID. WE WILL ALSO PAY MY FOSTER OR ADOPTER $500.

HT has a number of dogs that need very special homes. These dogs have been failed by humans along the way, leaving them homeless and with issues from their treatment. We'll be honest. Some of them are real jerks. But not always. And not to everyone. Not everyone can be charming ALL the time, right? Others are just fearful and don't like other animals because they have had a bad interaction at some point. Some of them love other dogs but are just plain scared of everything. But all of them are good on the inside. And we believe that ALL of them deserve a chance at life and love. And we're looking to find the right human out there to make that happen. But competition is tough. And they're up against small, well-behaved doggies...so we are offering incentives for special humans willing to give these pooches a chance. WE WANT YOU!

***We are paying $500 to any approved foster or adopter of our REWARDS dogs.***

The human will also get ongoing training support, all supplies covered and a $25 Amazon gift card each month for 6 months. You will learn and grow. You will be doing a world of good for a dog who has really had it rough in life.

Faith arrived at Homeward Trails through a rural shelter with which we collaborate. Although she was adopted, she was returned because her previous owner felt she had become "too big," which we interpret as a misunderstanding of her size—she is just right!

Have you ever come across the term "wiggle butt"? I initially believed it was a phrase I had invented, but I have recently discovered that it is indeed a recognized term. What exactly is a "wiggle butt," you may wonder? It refers to the delightful display of unrestrained happiness exhibited by a dog when they spot their owner or someone they hold dear. It is truly heartwarming to witness Faith's reaction when she enters the room and sees me. Her entire backside wags and quivers as she leaps onto the couch to shower me with kisses. If you wish to learn more about Faith's wiggle butt, I encourage you to view her videos, and you will understand what I mean.

Faith is a delightful and affectionate girl who can be a bit shy around new people. However, once she becomes familiar with you, she will be your loyal friend for life. She enjoys snuggling next to her human and likes to follow them around, eager to assist with any tasks at hand. Faith is often found sitting beside her foster while they work, occasionally offering her help by typing on the computer or gently tapping your arm when she feels it's time for some attention. She adores belly rubs and chin scratches, and if you find her "sweet spot" while petting her, you may notice her leg moving in delight—this is what we refer to as her “right tickle spot.”

Faith interacts well with other dogs and loves to engage in zoomies, running in circles without tiring or getting dizzy. She also enjoys playing with squeaky toys, often squeaking them repeatedly. Not only does she bring her toys to you for playtime, but she will also fetch a ball for you to throw, relishing the game of catch. Tug of war is another favorite pastime of hers, so be prepared—she excels at it!

Faith does love to interact and play with other dogs; however, we do not recommend she live with another dog. She feels protective of her person around other dogs in her home space, and she would prefer to be the only dog in her future home.

On walks, Faith is well-behaved on a leash. She may pull slightly if she spots a squirrel or bird, but otherwise, she walks nicely. When she does pull, it’s a gentle tug rather than a strong drag. Faith loves to explore her surroundings, taking in all the interesting scents and sights, showcasing her curious nature.

Food is one of Faith's greatest loves. She is highly motivated by treats, so if you want to win her affection, offering her food is the way to go. Her favorites include hotdogs, cheese, and Kongs filled with peanut butter.

Faith is an extraordinary girl with an abundance of love to give. In return, all she asks for is food, water, potty breaks, and a safe environment in your home. Come meet her, and you will undoubtedly fall in love with her instantly.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

You will first be required to complete our Adoption Questionnaire (http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/). Once received, a Homeward Trails rep will contact you via phone or e-mail. Please allow 72 hours for a response. If it seems you are a good fit for each other based on the info you provided, a phone interview will follow. If you are renting, we require proof that you are allowed to have a pet as well as any breed or size restrictions that may exist. If you have pets or did previously, we require your vet information and we will call them to verify that your pets are in good health, current on vaccines and spayed/neutered. We require that all pets in the home be spayed/neutered unless there are health reasons that can be verified with the vet.

Homeward Trails' adoption fees range depending on type of animal, the originating shelter and the vetting the animal has received. Our adoption fees are set to allow us to cover our expenses as well as to help other animals in our program that require additional care. Our fees cover vetting costs, shelter fees, fuel for transport, copying and printing of contracts and paperwork, our website presence, food, boarding, behavioral training and additional medical care. It is important to note that while the animal you adopt may not require all of these things, many other animals in our system do. Thus, any "extra" money from adoption fees goes to help those animals who may require additional care. By adopting from Homeward Trails, you are not saving just one life, you are helping to save others as well.

More about this rescue

Homeward Trails seeks to find permanent adoptive homes in the Mid-Atlantic Region for dogs and cats from under resourced shelters or whose owners can no longer care for them. In so doing, we seek to reduce the rate of euthanasia of adoptable animals through the rescue and placement of homeless animals; to support proactive spay/neuter practices; to promote positive and ongoing behavioral training; and to educate the public about how to care for their animals in a humane way. Homeward Trails not only facilitates adoptions from local shelters, but also supports a large network of foster care providers who take homeless dogs and cats into their homes, care for them, rehabilitate them when needed, and prepare them for their permanent adoptive homes.

Sadly, without our help, all of these adoptable animals would face almost certain euthanasia - usually within days or hours of our rescuing them. Each year we take in hundreds of wonderful animals who were left at shelters through no fault of their own.

Many are puppies and kittens – innocent victims of irresponsible pet owners who don’t spay/neuter. Some are abandoned hunting dogs who served their owners well and were dumped in woods or left at shelters when they were no longer wanted. Others are house pets whose owners simply grew tired of caring for them or moved and did not take them along. And even more are animals that have been injured, abused and neglected. Whatever the reasons, these animals all deserve better. And once with Homeward Trails, they get better!

Our Principles:
1. To always operate in the best interest of the animals we take into our program and to advocate for the proper care of those in shelters and in private homes;
2. To provide quality care for the animals we take in for as long as they are in our program and to provide ongoing support to our adopters;
3. To always maintain a manageable number of animals in our system whereby we can ensure proper medical care, behavioral training and housing for the animals;
4. To rescue the widest array of dogs and cats by avoiding general discrimination based on breed, age, and health;
5. To provide our shelter partners and their communities with resources that will result in the highest level of care for their animals, an increase in spay/neuter surgeries and a decrease in the abuse, neglect and abandonment of dogs and cats;
6. To treat our volunteers, adopters and partners with understanding, patience and support
