My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Smudge, a sweet senior gal looking for a loving home to spend her golden years.

Smudge has a gentle soul and so much love left to give. She would be the perfect companion for someone looking for a calm, affectionate cat to share quiet moments, cozy naps, and plenty of pets. Smudge is a medical adopt, and our vet staff will happily go over her needs and answer any questions so you feel confident welcoming her into your home. Senior cats like Smudge have so much love to give and truly appreciate the comfort of a caring home.

If you’ve been thinking about opening your heart to a cat who will cherish every moment with you, come meet Smudge and give this special girl the happy retirement she deserves!

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Southwest Missouri is an independent, 501(c)3 non-profit organization incorporated in 1956 and licensed by the Missouri Department of Agriculture. Funding for the organization comes from private donations. We do not receive any funding from any government agencies. We are the largest No Kill shelter in Southwest Missouri. No Kill means we do not believe in euthanizing animals for space, and we are dedicated to finding a home for every animal that comes through our doors.

We receive our animals from people giving up their pets for a variety of reasons, including changes in family situations and moving. Some of our animals have been strays rescued from the streets by a kind citizen. All of our animals are looking for permanent and loving forever homes!
