My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Dagwood — a gentle soul with a resilient heart and a whole lot of love to give. Dagwood has come a long way since arriving at our shelter in October of 2024. When he first came in, he was underweight and dealing with chronic skin issues, persistent ear infections, and cloudy eyes. Thanks to our incredible medical team—and the power of medicated baths, biopsies, and a limited-ingredient diet—Dagwood has made huge strides in his recovery. Medical care has been essential, but so has the love and patience poured into him by volunteers, staff, and shelter friends. With consistent kindness and attention, Dagwood has truly started to bloom. Now, he’s ready for the next chapter of his journey: finding his forever home.

What Dagwood Needs in a Home:

A social, similarly sized resident dog (a must!)
Dagwood thrives with canine companionship and does best with a confident, friendly dog. He gets along well with dogs both big and small—though he can be a little pushy at times, so a tolerant, playful buddy would be ideal. He mostly just wants to play and steal toys.

A patient adopter
Dagwood can be shy with new people and may need a few visits to feel comfortable. Once he trusts you, his affectionate side shines.

No young children
Due to his nervousness with new people, Dagwood would do best in an adult-only home or one with older children (12+).

What We’ve Learned from His Time in Foster:

Fully housebroken

Fits in beautifully with a pack of dogs

Loves to cuddle, play, and zoom around

Sleeps through the night on a dog bed

Can warm up to situations that initially worry him
(He was nervous around a man in the home at first, but with patience and calm energy, he built trust—and eventually hopped right up on the couch for pets!)

“Stranger danger” can be hit or miss, but calm, steady energy goes a long way—once he feels safe, he’s quick to make friends.

Dagwood’s ideal forever home will offer him time, understanding, and continued support as he keeps healing—emotionally and physically. If you have a social dog looking for a playful, snuggly companion and the heart to help a shy guy feel safe, Dagwood could be your perfect match.

Please spend the time necessary to make the best possible decision for you AND the dog you may adopt.
