Our process is stringent and not all adopters are approved.
Adoption steps
- Submit Application
- Online or in person
- Approve Application
- Adoption Coordinator reviews app, checks HOA or landlord for breed restrictions and pet policy, verifies vet records, background check.
- Meet the Pet
- Applicant comes in and meets pets by appointment
- Take the Pet Home
- Foster To Adopt for 3-5 days to help determine if pet is a fit for household.
- Sign Adoption Contract

Currently due to COVID-19 all adoptions are by appointment. Our pets can be viewed online or on our social media channels. Apply online and we will set up a private meet and greet for our adoptable pets.

Edgewater Animal Shelter serves the City of Edgewater, FL. We are 501(c)(3) and all donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
We take in unwanted and stray pets from the City of Edgewater and try and find loving homes for those that are able to be adopted.
The shelter also provides wellness services to the public. This includes low-cost spay and neuter, vaccinations, microchips, and flea and heartworm medications with a vet exam or prescription from your veterinarian.
The shelter has an in-house groomer providing a full array of grooming services available by appointment.
We participate in the Edgewater, New Smyrna Beach and Oak Hill TNR programs, providing spay and neutering services to feral cats.
