My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We all did a little internal happy dance when our girl Smidgen finally got her chance to go to a foster home. And, so far, this joyful, playful girl is nailing life in a true home!

She and her foster go for a lot of walks on the Atlanta Belt Line, where Smidgen gets a lot of attention and love and a chance to practice her leash-walking skills. She’s a social butterfly, so getting out and meeting new people is Smidgen’s jam.

Her fosters writes,

“She likes napping on the couch during the day and thinks shes a lap dog sometimes and will fall asleep on me. As far as walks, we’re working on her pulling. She can go around the block a bit, but any longer than a mile and she starts taking breaks to lie down. She definitely prefers play time to walk time as far as getting her energy out.”

Smidgen stays in her crate when her foster is at work and seems to be ok with it, but at night she sleeps in bed with her foster. She’s doing really well with house-training, having only had 2 accidents in the several weeks she’s been in her foster’s home.

Her fosters says Smidgen is excited to see other dogs on our walks.

“She hasn’t barked at any of them even when they bark at her. Sometimes she’ll whine because she’s excited to see another dog,” her foster says. “We haven’t had any interactions with cats and very limited interactions with kids. We saw a probably 11 yr old in an elevator and she was fine with her! I think she just may have a bit too much energy for a small child, we’re working on not jumping on people no matter how exciting it is!”

Her foster says Smidgen (like a lot of dogs who’ve spent time in a shelter) can get overly excited and start jumping on people or mouthing people’s arms, which is something they are working on. On the positive side, she isn’t a very vocal dog and doesn’t really bark at people or noises. Through all the thunderstorms recently she didn’t care about the noise. She’s also super lovey with new people and always excited to see people, even strangers on walks that she thinks are walking up to her.

‘All in all, Smidgen has been doing very well and has settled in very well,” her foster writes. She’s such a sweetheart and has gotten a lot of love on the belt line.”
