Meet Butch. He’s not in a hurry, but he is hopeful.
Butch has been waiting longer than he should have to—but you’d never know it by meeting him. At about 50 pounds, he’s a happy mix of goofy charm and loyal companionship. He loves a good adventure, appreciates a sunny spot like a professional sunbather, and firmly believes snacks make life better (and yes… he still keeps an eye out for lizards).
Butch is the kind of dog who brings laughter into ordinary days. He’s ready to swap kennel life for a couch, a routine, and someone who sees him for the wonderful, funny, steady companion he is.
Butch is available for adoption or foster, and he’s also eligible for placement through Pets for Patriots for qualifying veterans. If you think this big-hearted guy might be the one you’ve been waiting for, give us a call at 928-634-7387 to meet him.

More about this shelter
Our Mission
The Verde Valley Humane Society exists to humanely care for unwanted, lost and abused animals; and to promote animal adoptions and welfare through its policies and presence in the community.
Our Story
In 1982, a group of animal lovers formed the Verde Valley Humane Society. However, it wasn’t until March 31, 1986, that ground was broken for the first shelter. In the 20 years that followed, the community grew tremendously. It wasn’t until late 2009 that ground was broken for Phase 1 of construction for a new facility. We moved into our current structure in March 2010, and hosted the official ribbon cutting ceremony on April 16, 2010.
VVHS has grown into a vibrant animal shelter with a dedicated staff at the heart of operations. We have amazing support and assistance from a passionate Board of Directors and a tireless army of volunteers. Each of us is honored to better the lives of the cats and dogs who depend on us each day. It’s our people who allow the Verde Valley Humane Society to thrive and serve the beautiful animals that find their way to us.
Verde Valley Humane Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. 100% of your donations go directly to VVHS EIN# 74-2400312.
