My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Dominique — A Joyful, Loving Girl Who’s Always Ready for Fun

Dominique (affectionately called Dom) is a bright, affectionate, and endlessly playful girl who’s spent the last six months in the Paws to Prison training program. From the very beginning, Dom’s cheerful spirit has stood out — she’s known as the “love factory” of the group because she’s always ready to share her joy and affection with everyone she meets.

Dom is an outgoing, social dog who loves people and thrives on human interaction. She’d be happiest in a home with an active lifestyle — whether it’s playing fetch in the yard, going on family adventures, or joining in on outdoor fun. She adores kids and would be a fantastic family dog for those who enjoy keeping her engaged and active.

Highly intelligent and quick to learn, Dom has mastered her obedience training and even picked up a few fun tricks and agility skills. She’s athletic, loves to play catch (and can impressively snag a ball or toy out of the air!), and is now learning to love frisbee too. Her excitement for life can sometimes get ahead of her during training, but with consistent guidance, she quickly focuses and shows just how smart she is.

Dom walks well on leash when handled confidently and consistently, and she’s very well-mannered in the house. She settles down beautifully after playtime and enjoys relaxing with her people.

With other dogs, Dom is friendly and playful, enjoying time with her canine companions. On occasion, she’ll calmly set boundaries if another dog gets too pushy — she knows how to keep things balanced. While she enjoys dog friends, she truly lights up when she’s spending time with people — she’d always choose a game of fetch or a cuddle session over just about anything else.

As for cats, Dom finds them a bit too tempting to chase, so a cat-free home would be best for her.

Dominique has grown tremendously in the Paws to Prison program, learning structure, obedience, and social skills to match her big heart. She’s ready to bring endless love, laughter, and energy to a forever family who will cherish her enthusiasm and affection. ❤️

Owner Responsibilities & Things to Consider for Dominique

Dominique is a high-energy, affectionate, and smart dog who thrives in an active home. She will need a family or adopter who can provide:

  • Daily exercise and mental stimulation: Long walks, playtime, fetch, agility, or training sessions to channel her energy.

  • Consistent training and guidance: Dominique is highly intelligent and learns quickly, but her excitement can get ahead of her during training. A confident, patient handler will help her focus and continue building good habits.

  • Safe and secure space: She is athletic and active, so a fenced yard or safe play area is recommended.

  • Dog-friendly environment: Dominique enjoys playing with other calm or playful dogs, though she prefers human interaction first. She’s not suitable for homes with cats due to her chase instinct.

  • Attention and affection: Dominique thrives on human interaction and wants to be included in family activities. She’s happiest when engaged and loved.

3-3-3 Rule

As Dominique adjusts to her new home, expect the following stages:

  • 3 Days: She may be overwhelmed or overly excited and testing boundaries in her new environment.

  • 3 Weeks: She’ll start settling in, learning the routine, and showing more of her true personality.

  • 3 Months: Dominique will feel fully comfortable, confident, and secure — a loyal, joyful companion ready to share her heart with her family.

Vet & Health Considerations

  • Schedule a wellness exam with your veterinarian soon after adoption to establish care.

  • Keep up with routine vaccinations, flea/tick prevention, and dental care.

  • Discuss appropriate diet and exercise plans with your vet to keep Dominique healthy and happy.

By providing consistency, activity, and lots of love, Dominique will thrive and become a devoted, playful, and affectionate member of your family. ❤️
