My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there! My name is Malcolm. If you didn't fall in love with my sweet face and gorgeous eyes, wait until you experience my sweet heart!
I am an approximately 1 year old lab mix. I weigh about 45-50 lbs and am pretty much full grown now.
I was found on the streets with my two siblings at barely 3 months old and still lack some confidence, but my foster parent thinks with the right home I will flourish! I have a foster dog brother, who is bigger than me, we play and wrestle all the time. There are also a few cats and a little dog that live with us, but I get too excited and want to make them play so I can be a little too rough accidentally. I like watching them from my kennel, though, and sometimes try to talk to them. Speaking of talking, I love to argue and talk back, it makes my foster parent laugh. I’ve not met many kids, but if they are bigger and like to play (and cuddle!), I’m sure we would be best friends!
I do well in my kennel and prefer my time in there (especially after I steal a cat toy). I am quiet and well-mannered in the kennel unless I hear a car pull into the driveway, or I need to go potty. I never potty in there and only ever excited tinkle anywhere else in the house. I like to de-stuff toys and beds, so towels or blankets are preferred in there with me so I don’t make a big mess.
Squeaky toys are my favorite and I love to pull the squeaker out first when I get a new one. I love to chew on anything I can get my teeth into, if I’m bored, so lots of enrichment to keep me busy is important for my new home! I’m still getting used to walking on a harness and leash, but I am a quick learner and catch onto things without prompting so I’m sure I’ll get it down soon!

Malcolm is a really good and sweet boy and deserves a patient and loving home with someone who has the time and energy to play and love on him a lot. He would do well with another dog similar to his size, but definitely no small animals.

He is in the Huntsville, AL area and is chipped, fully vetted and ready for adoption! Please fill out an application if you are interested in Malcolm!

He may be transported to one of the many areas we provide transport but those fees are in addition to his adoption fee.

Go meet their pets

Our adoptable animals are fostered in loving homes throughout Huntsville, Alabama and the surrounding area. Because we do not operate a physical shelter, meet-and-greets are arranged by appointment only—typically after an adoption application has been submitted and approved.

For out-of-town adopters, we’re happy to offer virtual meet-and-greets to help you get to know your future furry family member before adoption or transport.

More about this rescue

Friends of Rescue is headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama with transport locations throughout the Great Lakes and New England. FOR is a volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2009.

Our mission is to save adoptable dogs and cats from overcrowded Southern shelters where limited space, minimal funding, and high intake rates often lead to euthanasia.

We are not professional trainers or animal behaviorists—just dedicated individuals working together to give these animals a second chance. Every pet in our program lives in a loving foster home and receives age-appropriate veterinary care while awaiting adoption.

Our ultimate goal is to match each animal with a committed, compassionate individual or family who will provide a FORever home.
