My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Aria!

Aria is one of the longest residents at our shelter. Aria came into the shelter when she was around a year old as a stray and has been here for almost four years since. She is often overlooked because she does not like other cats and tends to be more aloof, but she is a goofball at heart and the sweetest once you gain her trust. Aria loves her treats and we have discovered she is a puzzle master! She is incredibly intelligent and enjoys interactive toys that can keep her mind and body occupied.

Aria can often be found taking cat naps by her favorite window or trying to make a jail break to get her food during dinner time! While sometimes feisty, Aria is not aggressive and will always give a warning nip when she's not in the mood for pets. And it is all worth it when she decides she does. Aria is a complete love and will climb up onto your lap to give you little head bumps and kisses. She prefers head pets and scratches as full body pets can sometimes be overstimulating for her, but every now and again she enjoys those too!

Aria is a staff favorite. After years spent with us, she has hoarded a generous collection of toys that we have gifted her over the years and never fails to make us laugh with her antics. We know that the perfect person is out there for our girl. Aria has that true "black cat" cold on the outside, warm on the inside, personality, and will have so much love to whoever decides to give her the chance she deserves.

Aria will need a more experienced cat owner who will be able to keep up with her cleverness and behavioral needs and would prefer to be the only animal in the home.

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
