SPORTO
They call me Sporto. My friends call me SportySport. My not-friends call me SportButt. I’m working toward my varsity letter jacket in all the ball sports. Furry rattle balls are my fave, but there’s this one rubber ball with a tail on it that I like to throw around in a hammer toss.
I’m awesome at playing fetch. And by playing fetch I mean you throw balls and I chase them, carry them around in my mouth, and let you go find the next one to toss.
I’m steady—it takes me a minute but basically go back to living my life when new people come around. I wasn’t fazed by a calm toddler and the black lab is not terribly scary. I’d adapt to a household with kids or a dog.
I like to start my training routine before the sun is up—my ancestors were farm cats for sure. Spin class means tracked ball toy time. Climbing on furniture, and up bookcases, are as close as I get to the rock-wall of my dreams. Occasionally I’ll imagine the walls are tree trunks in a huge forest and leap to find that elusive branch I know is hiding in plain sight.
I’m into wet food—in fact I’m sure that every plate you bring toward me likely contains some yummy new something with my name on it. I don’t eat human food, and when you don’t put your plate down in my food-spot, I go back to batting practice. But I’m listening for the can to pop!
I love watching the sunset with my sisters after spending the day chasing the warmth of the sun around the house. When I crash, I sleep hard wherever I fancy—the rug, a closet, my Sherpa carrier, fluffy blankets. I like falling asleep on the bed while you watch that flat window. Or napping while you’re on the couch with me. I will climb up your chest when it’s dark to make sure you’re still breathing. When you say my name, my tail goes up and wags. Pet me and hear me purr. And if you want to hold me—cradle me like a football and scratch the back of my neck.
