The perfect combination! Diamond acts like part cat / part dog; part kitten / part full-grown cat. She is like the 3 year old in a princess dress or a Batman costume. Perfect for the family that wants a cat to play without the kitten hassles.
If you are looking for a kitty with personality, Diamond is your girl! She loves to play like a kitten, wants to be around her human, greets new people like a dog, but sleeps through the night like a full grown cat. The toys she likes best are the 'flying' type and ball on the ground that make no sound, such as sponge and sparkle balls.
Her foster mom thinks she would do great with the Word buttons that are so popular. With some training, she also could be a cat that likes to go on hikes with you. She loves looking out windows, so having perches at windows where things are happening outside would be great.
She has been living with her last kitten for two years and is just done with being a mom, so integration with other cats is questionable. She lived in a house with lots of dogs, so that is also a question mark, but with a calm dog and a slow introduction, it might work. However, she does want to be queen of the house, so keep that in mind.
She is not a cat you can adopt, throw down some toys and ignore for days on end. She needs people, play, and things to learn. If that is right for your family, come meet Diamond!!
Origin story: Two years ago, one of our San Antonio rescuers was walking to her mailbox when she saw something black and white on the middle of the street- she thought it was a rag or a piece of clothing. When she got close she realized it was a cat- a very, very skinny cat that she thought had been run over because it's eyes were closed. As she reached down to touch it, it opened its eyes and it was alive! The cat allowed the rescuer to pet her and then got up and followed her to the mailbox. There she went into the bushes behind the mailboxes and came out again. The rescuer paid attention and saw five small kittens hidden in the bushes. The rescuer understood that she was asking for help, to help all of them.
Diamond (black with white diamond on chest), the Mum, was on the brink of death from starvation, but with tender love and care she recovered. Four of the kittens were adopted to family and friends in San Antonio. Binx (all black, formerly Flower) is the last kitten and has lived together with Mum Diamond in their rescuer's "cat room" for almost two years. They are both good cats but ready for their own individual homes!
For a feral found in the state she was, Diamond is quite friendly, and walked right up to a new guest in her foster home just a few days after arriving in Colorado.
Diamond has made the journey up from San Antonio, Texas to Colorado and is being fostered in Denver, available to meet.
Red Fern Animal Rescue offers a two week foster to adopt trial in your home before finalizing the adoption to ensure the animal is the right fit for you, everyone in the home, human & animal, and vice versa.
Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio.
