My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Birdie, a 4-month-old Terrier mix puppy looking for a fresh start. Birdie, along with her friends Snow and Tilly, was dumped outside a home in rural Texas. Luckily, the homeowner took them all in, sparing them from the shelter. Now, Birdie is ready to find her forever family in Wisconsin.

Birdie has settled in so well with her WI foster family—she’s a calm, content girl who loves lounging with her favorite toys and soaking up all the love. She’s a pro at napping in her crate and enjoys hanging out in the TV room. She's fitting in well with the resident dog and will never deny some cuddle time. 💕 Birdie also knows basic commands and is highly food motivated!

This little sweetheart is looking for a family who will appreciate all she has to offer. Could Birdie be your new best friend? Apply today and let’s make her forever home dreams come true!

Sadly, black dogs like Birdie are often overlooked in shelters and rescues. But Birdie deserves her chance. She is friendly, social, and has all the potential to be an incredible family member.

FEE INCLUDES: Adopting an adult dog (6 months or older) includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, deworming, flea & tick prevention, heartworm testing, and microchipping.

For dogs under 6 months, they receive age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick prevention, and microchipping. All dogs are spayed/neutered by 6 months, covered within the adoption fee. The procedure must be done at one of our partner clinics.

To begin the adoption process, please submit an application on our website: www.hbwi.org/adopt. Once approved, you'll have the opportunity to meet our available dogs. Following the meeting, you can initiate a 5-day Adoption Trial, allowing you to take the dog home. This trial period is designed to ensure the dog is a match for you and aligns with your lifestyle. After the 5-day trial, if all goes well, the adoption will be finalized. Additionally, we require a home visit once the dog is settled in its new home to ensure a smooth transition for both the dog and the adopter.
