My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Katniss is a sweet and affectionate, 60lb, German Shepherd who is looking for her forever home. She’s friendly with both humans and other dogs, making her an excellent companion for families or individuals who have other pets.

Though she’s still learning some basics, like walking on a leash, she has an eager and quick-to-learn personality. She’s especially looking for an experienced and patient owner who can help her grow in confidence. With a nose that’s constantly on the go, Katniss loves to investigate her surroundings and find out who’s around. Katniss is a food lover through and through, so if you’ve got treats, you’ve got her heart. With the right guidance, Katniss has the potential to overcome her fears and become an even more well-rounded dog.

If you’re an experienced dog owner looking for a smart and loving companion, Katniss could be the perfect fit for you! She just needs someone with the dedication to help her reach her full potential. Could that be you?

Let’s help Katniss find her new beginning!November 25, 2025, 10:09 pm

Additional adoption info

All of our animals come fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered (if old enough), and microchipped. Puppies and kittens will be spayed/neutered and have all shots when they are old enough. There is an Adoption application, a quick phone interview to make sure it is a good fit, a meet and greet with the dog, then a home check, and an adoption contract. We ask for a $400 donation for adult dogs, and $500 for puppies at the time of adoption so that we can save other dogs from the shelter. The first step is to fill out an app here: https://thelittlereddog.org/dog-adoption-forms

More about this rescue

The Little Red Dog (TLRD) passionately transforms canine lives through holistic rehabilitation, education, and community outreach. Since 2011, the mission for our nonprofit has been clear: rescue, educate, find homes, and assist the people in our community who are in need. By advocating for comprehensive behavioral understanding, and assistance to the community, we strive to reduce animal cruelty, and the number of animals being surrendered to the shelter, thereby eradicating euthanasia and fostering a world where humans and dogs thrive together, and all humans and animals are free from discrimination. Through our efforts, we address both immediate needs and underlying issues. We envision a world where every dog, regardless of its past, has a loving future, and where canines and humans always feel included and appreciated. We are on a mission from dog!
