My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lizzy, a beautiful German Shepherd-Husky mix with a heart full of love and a zest for life! Lizzy came to the shelter as an owner surrender, as her previous family had too many pets to care for. Despite the change in her life, she remains sweet, friendly, and eager to find her forever home.

Lizzy is a bundle of energy, always ready for an adventure! She absolutely loves going on walks and playing fetch with the staff, showcasing her playful and athletic side. She's the perfect companion for an active family or individual who enjoys outdoor activities and has the time to give her the exercise and attention she craves.

She loves playing tug of war with her people, but a ball or a rope will do as well. She will need to be introduced to new people slowly as she doesn't like when strangers invade her space. Once she gets to know you, she is very comfortable just sharing your space. She will relax and hang out with you after a good tug of war session.

If you're looking for a fun-loving, affectionate dog who will keep you on your toes, Lizzy might just be the perfect match for you! Come meet her today and see for yourself how wonderful she is.

More about this shelter

Dogwood Animal Shelter is a non-profit, no-kill shelter.

Since its infancy, compassionate, like-minded volunteers have been the driving force behind Dogwood Animal Shelter. Through auctions and sales, a handful of dedicated people raised enough money to build its first, albeit small facility and was established as a 501(c) 3 in 1976. It was filled beyond capacity almost immediately.

The shelter is funded entirely from donations and proceeds from their Dogwood Animal Shelter Thrift Store.

After years of saving, planning and busting at the seams with fur-babies, in 2005 it was time to build a new facility with their own in-house clinic! Under the direction of Dr. John Reinhold and coupled with a very dedicated and gifted team of Veterinarians and staff, Dogwood Animal Shelter continues to offer low cost spays and neuters to the public as well as services to their shelter buddies; services to approximately 2,000 dogs and cats yearly!

Dogwood Animal Shelter began their journey of being a successful no-kill shelter in 1997, and since then has saved over 40,000 lives!
