Hello. My name is Honey Boo. I am a little less than 2 years old now and I weigh about 50 lbs.
My friends and I were seized by the pound on January 7, 2025, after being found living outside with no shelter or water. During the time we were brought in, it was around 25 degrees and very snowy. I was in a very small (approximately 2’x3’) chicken wire enclosure. It had a makeshift top made of different wood cuttings, but nothing to stop the wind and snow from blowing right in on me. Me and the rest of my friends were the offspring of our owner’s house dogs. We were moved outside and aside from being thrown some food and water when our owners felt like it, we had very little human interaction. We weren’t shown love and affection. We weren’t socialized. We weren’t trained. We just existed. Our owners then relocated, and we were left at the property alone with just occasional feeding and being checked on. At some point in my past, I suffered a broken front leg that was never treated and as you can see, it’s turned out to the side. It doesn’t currently cause me any mobility issues
After being brought into the pound, we were taught how to walk on leashes. We learned about warm beds, blankets and even toys. We have volunteers that come out and spend time giving us walks, love, attention and playtime. We’ve done a lot in the way of learning, but we have a long way to go. I will need someone that is patient and confident. Someone that can help me learn that not everything that moves is something to fear.
I really love being around other dogs and being around a well-socialized dog would be good for me.
Once I am comfortable with my people and surroundings, I am a very happy and sweet girl.
Please consider giving me my forever home. I would love to spend this holiday season with a family that loves me!
Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE.
Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt.
If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care.
We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter.
Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him!
Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm.
Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families.
There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays.
Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable.

More about this shelter
We are a rural Animal Control facility located in Lisbon, OH. We do the very best we can to get our dogs adopted and into good, loving homes. We try our hardest to place all adoptable dogs into rescues or homes. We are a VERY RESCUE FRIENDLY pound. We do have to check rescues before they can pull, but this can usually be done within a couple of days. We do on occasions have to euthanize, though we do everything we can to get the dogs adopted. For the most part, we only have to euthanize for behavior issues or injuries or illness beyond repair, however we only have a limited amount of space here.
