GEYRAN - FOSTER FAMILY UPDATE

We picked Geyran up at Give a Dog a Home rescue in Sebec on September 1st, and have fostered her for one week so far. She started out being clearly nervous and skittish around us -- and who could blame her after what she's experienced in the world so far? But it's been the most amazing thing to see her change from day to day, becoming more confident and loving and playful from one day to the next.

This girl has a lot of love to give, and absolutely adores being loved on. While she still has a long way to go to being her most confident self, with the quick progress she's making, it's clear the only thing standing between her and her best self is a little time and a lot of love.

Geyran happily sleeps in her crate with the door open during the night, doesn't bother you when you're still sleeping, and then comes to greet you and get some rubs when you get out of bed. She is a very clever girl, and despite having never lived in a home before, knows to only potty outside. First thing in the morning she follows close behind me to the front door, then goes straight outside to do her business. During the day she naps on her bed in the living room, and makes trips outside with us when we go out.

She is a huge fan of taking a walk on the trail in the woods behind our house. We have been trying to convince her to take it easy with short jaunts only while she adjusts from a more sedentary life in the Oman rescue and GaDah rescue, to being more active. Geyran certainly seems to be good with other dogs, because she manages to get on with our dog Apollo, who has a fairly severe case of only-child syndrome and wants everything to be about him. While Apollo does resource guard us despite our best efforts, Geyran takes it in stride. While I don't think they'll ever be snuggle buddies, they get along as well as we ever could have hoped considering what a tough nut to crack Apollo is.

Geyran does try to engage Apollo in play sometimes, but our snooty dog has mostly turned his nose up at her. The only chance we've had to see them play together is when we get either Geyran or Apollo worked up and when one starts to do some zoomies, then the other usually can't resist joining in and suddenly they are lapping the house together.

When we bring Geyran into the bedroom at night to sleep, she first comes to our bedside to get lots of rubs alongside Apollo before we turn out the lights and she heads into her crate. She's come to love this routine, and she seems so happy when the both of us are giving attention to them together....I think it's her favorite part of the day. It's honestly been making it harder and harder to stop giving her attention and turn off the light each night.

I hope someone out there will finally give this sweet, sweet girl the chance she deserves to find her family, and discover all that she has to give once she has a chance to settle down in her forever home.

GEYRAN’s Personality
Can be skittish in the kennels, but once comfortable, is very affectionate and craves human attention
Has become more reserved since her son Binky was adopted
Loves treats — may try to steal kennel mates' snacks (likely from past survival instincts), but not aggressive
Good with other dogs, though can be a little bossy at times
‍♀️ Despite being a front leg amputee, she is active and fast — check out her videos!
❤️ Desperate for love and affection — just needs time to build confidence with new people

What GEYRAN Needs
A family that can provide a healthy lifestyle, both mentally and physically
Good quality food, toys, and treats
Regular veterinary wellness checks
⏳ Patience and understanding as she adjusts and builds trust

GEYRAN’s Story
Lived on the streets of Oman with her pups for about a year, socializing with kind locals
She and her puppies were shot — only her son Binky survived
Sustained two gunshot wounds to her leg, leading to amputation
❤️ Despite everything, she remains incredibly happy and social, loving everyone she meets

About Wadi Dogs
Stray dogs in Oman, often called “Wadi Dogs,” are a unique mix of sighthound breeds, believed to descend from the majestic Saluki and other smaller agile breeds, many resembling whippets. Without rescue, these dogs often face harsh fates such as being shot or hit by vehicles.

More about this rescue

Founded by Jenny an English woman who found her way to Texas on 14th February 2011 in San Antonio, Texas we saved dogs from the high kill shelters in Texas.

In July 2015, Jenny relocated herself and the rescue to the beautiful state of Maine, it's weather and people much like that of her home in Northern England.

We still save dogs from the high kill shelters in Texas where dogs have just 3 days to be saved. We vet them, they have veterinary examination and are issued with health certificates and then transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine.
