My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Palmer is a little guy with a big personality—about 15 lbs and 1.5 years old. His adoption fee is $300, though we’re open to adjusting that for the right home.

He’s been with us for 8 months, patiently waiting for someone to see past his initial nerves and give him the loving home he deserves. Palmer doesn’t warm up right away and may bite if he feels overwhelmed, but in a calm, predictable environment, he’s made great progress.

Though he was originally labeled a bite risk, we’ve seen firsthand how quickly he can adjust—it only took a couple of days for him to bond with our new kennel techs. He just needs someone willing to give him a chance. 💛

Palmer still shows stress around new people, so he’ll need someone who understands his boundaries and can give him space to decompress.

He would thrive in a quiet, adult-only home with little foot traffic. He can be picky with dogs and would likely do best as the only pet, though he’s done well with three calm, respectful dogs currently in our care.

If you have a calm home and a patient heart, Palmer could be the perfect fit. 🐾

Since we do not observe these animals in home settings, we cannot guarantee whether they are housebroken. Upon intake, we ensure the following:

Spay/neuter procedures

Microchipping

All vaccinations

Blood and fecal testing (and treatment if necessary)

Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention

A complimentary wellness exam, scheduled 7–10 days after adoption

Please note: Adopters must live within an hour of our facility and be at least 21 years old.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fees for adult dogs start at $300, though could be higher based on adoption demand and medical costs. Our adoption fees for puppies start at $400, though could be higher based on adoption demand, and includes 4 veterinary visits to update vaccines and perform spay/neuter. Some dogs have higher adoption fees because of adoption interest

Our shelter mission focuses on medical and behavioral rehab cases, so our adoption fees never cover our costs.

We have an adoption application for dogs and cats and will check a vet reference as well as information regarding your home situation and pet compatibility.

Some adoptions will require a home visit.

More about this shelter

Animal Hope opened its doors as a standalone shelter on February 1, 2015.

Prior to that, Animal Hope operated as a small rescue at Animal Hospital Southwest. As the municipal veterinarian for the city of Fort Worth, Animal Hospital Southwest frequently pulled difficult cases that the city was not equipped to treat and rehabilitate due to budgetary and time constraints.

From this organization was born the Animal Hope shelter, a rescue focusing on rehabilitation and “second chance” adoptions.
