My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rose, a 3-year-old spayed female tabby with a big personality. She’s fiercely independent, sharp-witted, and knows exactly what she wants. And what she really wants is a quiet, adult-only home where she can reign as your one and only.
Let’s get straight to it: Rose has a bit of a spicy side. She can be affectionate on her terms, but she doesn't hesitate to let you know when she's had enough—and yes, that might mean the occasional bite or swat. Because of this, she’s best suited for an experienced cat person who respects boundaries and appreciates a cat who isn’t afraid to speak her mind.
She loves napping in the sunshine and will tolerate petting for up to three swipes at a time, but her absolute favorite thing in the world? Wet food. Pop a can and watch her come running screaming her approval at the top of her lungs. It’s the fastest way to her heart—and might even earn you some bonus purrs.
Rose does not want to share her space with other cats, dogs, or small children. She's had enough of the hustle and bustle and is ready to enjoy the peace of being the solo diva in someone’s life. What she will give in return is loyalty, quirky companionship, and the joy of watching a cat with a true sense of self live her best life. She’s not for everyone—but for the right person, Rose will be unforgettable.
If you’re a cat-savvy human who is willing to respect a cat who wants to be admired from a distance like the queen she is, Rose just might be your soulmate.

More about this rescue

A New Leash on Life has a goal of saving all the adoptable pets about to die in the municipal shelters of Alabama until we become a NO KILL state. We rescue, provide veterinary care, provide a foster home or adoption center spot, and find adopters who are good matches for homeless dogs and cats...AND horses, pigs, rabbits, and any other animal who needs our help. All animals are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, microchip, vaccines, testing (HW for dogs, FIV/Felv for cats), and whatever else they need before adoption.
