My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Smalls – A Tiny Snake with a Big Heart! ❤️🐍

Smalls may be little, but their heart is full of love, and they’re ready to find a forever family to call their own! This young, resilient ball python has been through quite the journey but has come out stronger, healthier, and more eager than ever to find a place to call home.

Smalls was found as a stray in May 2023 and later transferred to our rescue in June to recover from stomatitis and thermal injuries. It was a tough road, requiring multiple rounds of medication and plenty of TLC, but this determined little snake fought through and came out victorious! Once strong enough, Smalls moved into a loving foster home, where they continued to thrive and enjoy life as a cherished companion.

Though their exact age is a guess based on size, Smalls is definitely on the younger side. With proper care, ball pythons can live 20 to even 40 years in captivity—so adopting Smalls means gaining a lifelong friend!

What makes Smalls so special?
💘 Friendly & Social – Smalls enjoys gentle handling and has even done well with respectful children!
💘 Resilient & Strong – After overcoming so much, Smalls is ready to leave the past behind and embrace a bright future.
💘 Perfect for First-Time or Experienced Keepers – Smalls would make a wonderful companion for a responsible, reptile-loving home.

Smalls is searching for a loving, committed family who will provide them with the care, attention, and cozy habitat they deserve. In return, this little sweetheart promises to be your quiet but endlessly charming Valentine for many years to come!

More about this rescue

Small Breed Rescue of Southern California is an all-volunteer, non-profit, foster based organization funded by donations. We are dedicated to rescuing small breed dogs, small reptiles and select exotic pets primarily from public shelters and other rescues. Being committed to keeping administrative expenses low, virtually every dollar received goes directly to the care of the animals.

Our rescue is uniquely structured to rehabilitate animals who are at high risk of euthanasia due to manageable behavioral challenges, such as dogs who are declining in a shelter environment or reptiles / exotics that have not been properly handled over their lifetime. We develop relationships to accommodate these specific assistance needs, which is what differentiates us from other rescue organizations.

We have assembled a foster team that consists of experienced individuals who bring particular skills from the animal welfare industry. This enables us to grow, educate and enrich our foster community in a manner that supports our specific needs and those of our animals.

Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the animals beyond the adoption process by providing education, training tips, resource references, and an open door policy to our adopters.
